Though meals tend to bring friends together, meals peppered with magnets can push them apart. Enjoy an attractive repast with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of authentic New Mexican cuisine at Cecilia's Cafe.

The talented foodsmiths at Cecilia’s Café—whose palate-popular dishes earned the restaurant a feature on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives—combine heirloom recipes from the owner’s grandmother with kitchen wizardry to forge a menu of homemade New Mexican favorites. Diners can fire gustatory start pistols with appetizers of chili-cheese fries ($3.99) topped with a choice of red or green chili sauce made fresh twice a day. Patrons can awaken taste buds more effectively than by licking car batteries with the bold flavors of the carne adovada—succulent cuts of pork sizzling in a red-chili marinade and accompanied by rice and beans ($8.25). A pair of green chilies rellenos ($7.95) beckons for bites of gooey cheese, and perfectly seasoned ground beef and homemade salsa fill a duo of taco shells ($5.75).

Nestled in a small, slender building in the heart of downtown Albuquerque, the funky eatery's interior provides a laid-back atmosphere, with exposed-brick walls, assorted vintage trinkets, and a bountiful collection of Coca-Cola signs from days long gone. Diners can lasso their most iron-tongued acupuncturists and bring them to Cecilia's for authentic local cuisine.

The Groupon Guide to: Smoothies and Shakes

Blenders convert thick food into liquid form for people and birds that are too busy to digest overly solid edibles. Here's a guide to some simple blended treats:

Fruit Smoothie: Fruit tastes pretty good, but it's embarrassing to eat in public because of all the uncouth juices. Blend fruits such as bananas, strawberries, and oranges into ice cream or yogurt to make them easier to sip. Add a "super fruit" such as açaí berry or sprinkles to make your body immune to vitamins.

Protein Shake: This mixture of milk, powdered muscles, and eggs cooked over a space heater was used as papier-mâché paste until the 1980s, when scientists discovered it could be used as an alternative source of fuel for bodybuilders.

Slushie: Though drinking ice is not recommended unless you want to look like some kind of Winter Olympian, it’s less challenging to drink ice that's been infused with fruit-scented syrup. Slushies are the best treat for a hot summer day or a night spent locked inside a mall food court.

Vanilla Milk Shake: Milk shakes are a great way to get in your daily dose of calcium and are a tasty alternative to milk. Try substituting a vanilla milk shake for milk in your cereal, coffee, cake, or yogurt.
