A creative power trio—director Jerry Zaks (La Cage Aux Folles, Everybody Loves Raymond), book writer B. T. McNicholl (Cabaret, Billy Elliot), and composer Dennis DeYoung (a founding member of the rock group Styx, The Hunchback of Notre Dame)—tells the entire puppy production from a four-legged point of view. Adult actors teeter on stilts against an altered backdrop design in order to present a dog’s eye perspective. The production also casts real-life dogs rescued from shelters and gives them their big break as headlining hounds.
You’ll catch the musical from parterre or mezzanine seats at the Michael and Susan Dell Hall in the Long Center. 101 Sequels
101 Dalmatians is a beloved film, and as with many classic movies, there have been numerous attempts to make a sequel. Unfortunately, some of the sequel ideas missed what made the original so popular. Here are some the less successful sequels to 101 Dalmatians:
- 101 Geese: In an attempt to add some realism to the series, none of the geese talk or seem to have any personality. The plot, involving a senator who may or may not have committed murder, was heavily influenced by Watergate-era paranoia, but proved difficult to follow amid the incessant honking of 101 geese.
- 100 Dalmatians: This prequel shows what happened between the birth of the 100th and 101st dalmatian, which, it turns out, was not much. The home-video release edits out many of the graphic birthing scenes.
- 101 Dalmatians 2: Two 101 Dalmatians: All 101 dalmatians are enjoying the good life when a rival group of 101 dalmatians shows up and challenges them to rob as many convenience stores as possible within one hour.
