House of James
House of James's newly expanded coffeehouse, tucked inside the 30-year-old book shop's spacious interior, brews Canadian-roasted Fratello coffee, scoops out 16 gelato flavours, and serves a light menu of salads, sandwiches, and pastries made from fresh ingredients. Skillful baristas can craft lattes ($3.50), mochas ($3.85), and other bean-based brews from Fratello coffee or can blend fruit smoothies ($4.05) using real fruit and blenders trained in the finest purée academies of France. For solid-food cravings, the café serves up such offerings as a broiled chicken melt ($6.99) and a southwest chicken wrap doused in chipotle barbecue sauce ($6.99). Meanwhile, 16 flavours of Italian gelato ($4.02/single scoop, $4.91/double) stand by to supply a happy ending. A steady procession of live local bands, book signings, and farm auctions passes through to keep eyes and ears entertained while mouths sip and chew.
