Though lice commonly ail the heads of children, most parents don’t know exactly what to do or where to go when the problem arises. Parents Sandi Cranny and Suzanne Comella experienced this confusion firsthand when they went through their own lice infestations, quickly realizing the need for a specialty salon dedicated to the treatment of lice. They studied up and opened Shiny Strands, which is certified by the Shepherd Institute of Lice Solutions and uses only nontoxic products. The technicians use a highly effective procedure known as the strand-by-strand method to rid heads of lice, and they issue back-to-school release forms once kids are safe to return to class. While kids undergo treatment, they can keep themselves distracted with a handheld DVD player or a bag of popcorn, and parents can pour themselves cups of coffee and flip through magazines.
