Maya Zahira School of Bellydance
For Maya Zahira, belly-dancing is both an activity and a prescription. She views the dance as a healing act that can affect the mind as well as the body and has personally reaped its many benefits—practicing the art helped her to lose 100 pounds. Today, she leads private, semiprivate, and group lessons for all skill levels. Her classes are geared toward women of every age and build because Maya maintains a safe, positive setting for rehearsing sinuous techniques. Regardless of each pupil's experience, she strives to build their sense of confidence and poise simultaneously.
Weekly class series highlight beginning and intermediate choreography and outfit dancers with props such as hip scarves, finger cymbals, and, for advanced protégés, a second belly on their back. During Slow Burn Bellydance sessions, Maya shifts her attention to strengthening core muscles with the dance's hypnotizing isolations. She can target her private classes and workshops toward specific goals, whether clients want to perfect their arm work or learn to twirl with veils; she also performs at special events from birthday parties to wedding receptions.
