When it comes to hot dogs in Chicago, ketchup is a four-letter word. And while Windy City native, Adam Deal, offers a real Chicago dog at his place, The Dog of Nashville, he’s not one to discriminate against the forbidden condiment—or any others, for that matter. Deal and his hand-picked team of cooks assemble more than a dozen varieties of franks piled with everything from the Chicago essentials—mustard, chopped onions, tomato, relish, sport peppers, celery salt, and a dill pickle spear inside a poppy-seed Bears helmet—to more unconventional varieties, such as bacon and a fried egg or pulled barbecue pork and coleslaw. Their creations have captured the media’s attention, including a number one spot on Nashville Scene’s “Best Hot Dog” list in 2011 and in 2012. Of course, every hot dog needs a side, so Deal offers seven of them, treating diners to fries and homemade chips as well as award-winning onion rings.
