With its proximity to ocean shoreline, forests, and mountains, Vancouver draws outdoorsy and athletic people from all walks of life. The coaches at Evolution BC apply this insight to their teaching of both Krav Maga and Crossfit, upholding an ethos that people's athletic needs "differ by degree, not kind."
The Crossfit BC coaches strive to reach all ages and skill levels, from aged grandparents to experienced athletes, they reject specialization, designing ever-changing daily workouts to develop all dimensions of health. A lift might be followed by gymnastics work, such as a handstand; other sessions might include activities such as rowing or jumping boxes. Every exercise is scalable, too, meaning there's always an easier or tougher version to challenge each participant's fitness level. Unlike some programs that motivate with drill-sergeant shouting, the Crossfit coaches keep things positive by cheering on their classes and occasionally letting a stampede of unicorns loose into the room.
Krav Maga BC
Each of Evolution BC's locations also hosts Krav Maga BC, whose instructors drill students of all ability levels in self-defense skills developed for the Israeli Defense Forces. Its popularity has spread throughout the world and is now taught to civilians at the Krav Maga BC regional training centres in Vancouver and West Vancouver.
