We spoke with Dennis Cavanaugh, owner of the 5 & Diner location in Mesa, about why Groupon Now! has worked for him.

I started working with Groupon earlier this year when the owners of four other 5 & Diner franchise locations and I offered a traditional Groupon deal of $10 for $20 worth of food and drink. The deal was extremely successful, selling more than 2,000 Groupons and brought in a huge number of new customers.
While the traditional deal has worked well, I was immediately intrigued when my Groupon rep told me about Groupon Now!. Instead of running a deal with an expiration date months down the road, Groupon Now! deals are available for instant use and valid for only a few hours at a time.
The Groupon Now! deal structure allows me to run a deal during the traditional slower times of my day or week. For me, I wanted to bring in more dinner customers, so running the deal in the evening has helped keep a steady flow of people coming to the diner throughout the entire day.
One of the more surprising aspects of running my Groupon Now! deal is that I’m bringing in new customers from outside of my normal radius. People are pulling up Groupon Now! on their smart phones and finding my restaurant. If I start getting too many people coming in, I can turn the deal off when I need. The flexibility is terrific.
In addition to Groupon Now!, we’ve participated in other coupon programs and found that the revenue per Groupon customer is much higher than other forms of advertising. Also, Groupon customers spend well above the value of the Groupon Now! deal.
All in all, Groupon Now! works well for our business. The deal allows us to bring in people exactly when we can handle them.
