We’re excited to announce our latest innovation in personalization: Deal Types and Places. We’re constantly looking for new ways to bring you the best, most relevant deals in the places you like to spend your time. With Deal Types and Places, we personalize the Groupon experience by making it easier than ever to discover the best deals (Types) in the spots you want them (Places), every day of the week. And for businesses, we’re helping you reach shoppers who are most likely to become lifelong customers.
The full explanation is after the jump, or if you prefer, you can check out a video walk-through with us here. We hope you have fun exploring Deal Types and Places…because we had a lot of fun making it happen.
Deal Types
Starting this week, most Groupon subscribers will see the new Personalization Bar below the main deal image when logging on to Groupon.com. On this bar, you’ll notice a new list of Deal Types associated with the offer you’re looking at. From ‘Good for 2’ or ‘Fresh Air,’ to ‘Bring the Kids’ and ‘DIY,’ Deal Types cater to your personality, making it incredibly simple to find the things you love as well as experiences we think you’d enjoy. By selecting the heart icon next to a Deal Type that interests you, we’ll instantly update your deal experience with all of the deals that match what you’ve told us you’re looking for.
Places
‘Places’ are your favorite spots around town where you want to find deals. We suggest adding places like your home and work addresses, a city you travel to often, or a new neighborhood you’ve recently discovered and want to learn more about. Once you add a Place to your profile, your deal experience is further customized to showcase deals in your top destinations.
Your ‘All Deals’ page is also newly personalized based on your current Deal Types and Places, bringing your most relevant deals to the top of the list. You can manage your Deal Types here too – simply scroll over a deal to view all of the Deal Types associated with that particular offer, and add or remove your preferred Types with a simple click of the heart.
You can update your Deal Types and Places easily and at any time, instantly giving you deals that match your current needs. Maybe you’re dating someone new and interested in more ‘Good for 2’ deals, or perhaps you’ve recently moved and want deals in your new part of town. With Deal Types and Places, you can view and edit your selections on your user profile via Groupon.com/MyProfile or by clicking the ‘My Profile’ tab at the top right corner of your Groupon screen.
We’re looking forward to your feedback!

I’m moving to Bend, Oregon early next year and would like to see some deals for that particular city. In downtown Bend, there are a lot of restaurants and small clothing shops to check out. Also, I should mention that there’s a ski resort 15 miles from Bend –totally exciting

We bought two nights in the Forest Villa Hotel in Prescott, AZ for $87. It was wonderful, beautiful lobby with a wood burning fireplace, free hot breakfast of sausage and scrambled eggs, then you can have waffles, biscuits, toast, muffins, cereal, bagels, peach slices (canned), apples, coffee and assorted juices or milk. That would cost a lot at a restaurant and makes the hotel an even better value.
