What’s summer without a little adventure? Edited See winners’ names at the end of the post!
Groupon and ExploreChicago.org (the city’s official tourism site) are giving you the chance to get away for a few days and run amok in our fair city. One winner will enjoy:
- Two tickets on Southwest Airlines to Chicago**
- Two nights at the Fairmont Hotel Chicago (these are swanky digs)
- $250 in Groupon credit to create your custom Groupon weekend and do Chicago like a local
We’ll accept entrants through the form at the end of this blog post through **Thursday, June 17 (sorry, had the wrong date originally!!) and winners will be announced Friday, June 18. Winners will be chosen randomly; enter once per day.

I lived there in the 1970s for a brief period, and would give my eye teeth AND my left arm to check it out all these years later. It was a beautiful city. i especially loved the park, gardens and zoo, the lake and the music. I, too, really need a vacation.

My husband & I have decided to care for his 90 yr. old dad here in our home so he would be with family & not in an institution. He has been with us since Dec. & since he cannot be left alone I’ve left my full time job to care for him. My husband and I didn’t get to have a honeymoon.( We were married over 5 years ago) My mother brought over some kind of plague than infected the whole wedding party (guests and all ) from her trip over on the airplane. I’m from Ireland, but living in Boston, and I’ve been told that Chicago is like the county that floated off our island and landed in the US – only it’s been blessed with better food and a big city feel without the attitude of NYC !

I’m addicted to Groupon. I love waking up, checking my blackberry for a new offer, and if it’s right for me…PURCHASING! I’m actually the perfect candidate for restaurants. I always spend about triple what I pay originally, but it’s all good! Just enjoying meeting up with friends and trying new places.

I’ve been crazy addicted to Groupon since I’ve discovered it within the last year or so and continue to keep buying it because it’s landed me in so many new opportunities I never would have taken had it not been for the deals. This year, I discovered so much in life, including ziplining, rock climbing, and yoga. My new adventures include skydiving, kayaking, and trying all these new restaurants.
But something I’ve never done, is go to Chicago. The other thing is I work 7 days a week between 2 jobs and having this opportunity would be a tremendous life experience for me and would love to be a part of Groupon’s ever growing marketing and business campaign.
Aside from working 7 days/week, I also have not taken an official vacation, well… since before I graduated high school, back in 2000 (Key Club International Convention in Disney) which I’m not so sure really counts as a vacation. I never did spring break while in college because I had to always work and could never afford it.
So… here’s to hoping that maybe my going broke by buying all these Groupons will help earn me a cool trip and some more new experiences I didn’t get a chance to take while in college (or even after college for that matter) and be able to finally get a vacation in before I’m 30!

My limited experience with Chicago involved driving past the city skyline once when I was a teenager on the way to my brother’s Navy basic training graduation (when you’re 16 and on a family trip, you don’t have much say!). I LOVE Chicago! As a child, we would visit every year because my father was raised just outside the city, and his sister and her family were still there. My father passed away 2 years ago and I have never shown my husband the house he grew up in (he actually helped design the house with his father). I would love to show my husband the area. Thank you!

I was born in Chicago where my dad managed the crew that ran the monorail for the Chicago Worlds Fair. We moved to New York when I was 6/months old. My parents divorced and the last I saw of the Eastcoast was at 4/yrs old. Have always intended on going for a visit to my birth city and, hopefully, check out the monorail or site of same at least in honor of my late father. I’ve heretofore failed to have a positive experience in or regarding Chicago. Chicago is the place where my favorite uncle died as a result of a hospital mistake, one to which the hospital confessed before apologizing to us, the family. We chose to neither sue nor accept a multi-million dollar compensation. Chicago is the city where, having been sent there by my company which gave me 2-weeks leave attached to a 6-week training assignment whilst living in a very nice though modest house in Cicero, neighbor adorned my house with eggs, tomatoes and feces before finally burning a cross on the lawn, thereby forcing me to relocate under police escort. Chicago is the place where, when the mayor of seattle and the mayor of Chicago wagered on which of our teams would win big sporting event, we (seattle chose to honor them with some of our best salmon (rich in protein, omega-3s and zero saturated fat and only residual sea salt)–a precious gift. to which Chicago responded by offering up it’s best pizza. whilst failing to mention that the cheese, pepperoni and processed white flour dough alone would make us less healthy for having won. i could quite easily suggest that i HATE chicago except that i’m not a hater, and so i don’t. Chicago’s best opportunity to convence me that it’s little more that a culturally corrupt gangster town would be to bathe me in it’s highly-touted new environmental footprint and the vaunted state-of-the-science revamping of it’s downtown central business district, which i’d love to see.

Got to visit Chicago a couple years for the first time for only a couple days. I’d love to go back and visit my husband’s fun cousins and see all the things we missed. Thanks for this contest.

What exactly am I supposed to say here? Does it have to be about Chicago? What I want to do there? Who I know there? What I’ve done there? How windy and cold it is? The supposedly great sports teams? How much better than New York because cheaper? How far away from here (D.C. area)? How thank God this contest is in summer and not winter? How if I won, what if no one wanted to come with me? What if I/ we had a terrible time? What if I got sick on the plane and puked? Such as if I had to sit facing backwards which only Southwest makes you do. How it IS actually a place I want to visit, because it’s the birthplace of slam poetry, and I do have friends to see there, and one of my closest associates (relatives) or two or three or more (friends included, now) went to school there and I know there’s so much for me to check out, even if no one wants to come with me but maybe does anyway, and we both sit backwards and do puke on the way, and don’t even have a fun time — hey, it’ll at least be an experience worth writing about, I’m sure!

I love Chicago. Wiener’s Circle, Lake Michigan, Garret’s Popcorn, Kingston Mines, Rush and Diversey, Gingerman Bar, Green Mill, Scoozi’s, Gene & Georgetti’s, the Drake….I love it all. I lived in Chicago for four years, went to Northwestern, graduated in ’91 and haven’t been able to get back since then. Please pick me so I can get back to my Sweet (2nd) Home -Chicago!

I love this idea! As a St. Louis native and now live in Long Island NY, Southwest has always provided my husband and I the most convenient travel options and most consistent and reliable service, but we typically only visit Chicago on a brief layovers from our old and new home! We’d love this trip to NY to celebrate our year of new beginnings! Thanks this opportunity! We also have never been to Chicago and hear its so much like NY but better and a bit closer to home for us!
