Merchant of the Week: Dr. Bill Dorfman’s Century City Aesthetic Dentistry

Today’s featured Merchant of the Week is Dr. Bill Dorfman of Century City Aesthetic Dentistry in Los Angeles, Calif.

When a traditional radio advertising campaign failed to attract a single new patient, Dr. Bill recognized the need for a new marketing tool to reach his desired clientele and drive new patients to his practice. Enter, Groupon. Read Dr. Bill’s full story after the jump.

Writes Dr. Bill:

When our traditional advertising tactics failed to bring in the business we were looking for, we knew we needed a change in order to drive new clientele and specifically the younger demographic that we were looking to target. In researching the Groupon business model, we realized that we would have nothing to lose, only new patients to gain. With the help of our Groupon representative, we determined that a deal on the ZOOM! teeth-whitening treatment would be our best option for creating the most new business for our practice.

Our deal ran on July 25, 2010 – a ZOOM! teeth-whitening treatment for $179, originally valued at $450. In just one day, Groupon brought 637 new clients to our office, far more than any other advertising or marketing campaign we had tried in the past. We saw about 1/3 of the Groupons redeemed in the first month and estimate that 25% of the new customers we have seen have already become repeat visitors, booking additional appointments at our office. Even more, we’ve already sold four Invisaligns to Groupon customers and expect Groupon’s viral, word-of-mouth approach to build exposure for this treatment as well.

Overall, Groupon customers are great patients that match our target demographic of affluent, educated 30-50 year olds.The process was easy to set up and we were satisfied with the assurance that we had nothing to lose and only great exposure to gain.

    Hi John – Most of our customers look for timely updates from us on Facebook and Twitter. We didn’t think the issue would last throughout the day, otherwise we certainly would have updated here too! In the future we can certainly do that.
