Those who adore the affection of cuddly puppies, kittens, and iguanas know that taking care of your skin makes animals more likely to lick your face with their life-giving tongues. Let the cute creatures relish your countenance with today's Groupon: for $60, you get $120 worth of facials or hair services at Toscana European Day Spa on Newbury Street. CityVoters named Toscana one of the top five Best Day Spas in 2009.

Toscana's facials range from a classic European ($85 for 60 minutes) to a Romanian herbal mud treatment ($95 for 80 minutes). To draw toxins out of pores and give skin the oxygen it needs to breathe and catch fire, opt for the Tuscan organic fruit peel facial ($100 for 60 minutes). Or, let vitamin C revitalize your frontispiece during a Flash Beaute treatment ($110 for 60 minutes). If you'd rather renew your noodle nest, a wash, cut, and blow-dry (starting at $75) will transform any outdated coif into a wearable work of art. Color services start at $70 for a single process and range up to $170 for full foil. Toscana's hair services also include wedding or prom hairdos (starting at $75) or a special 'do for proms that turn into weddings.

As part of owner Doina Mandrila's commitment to quality, Toscana uses top-notch and organic products, including Eminence Organic Skin Care and L'Oréal Paris hair care, for its treatments. Mandrila, who has a background in biochemistry, has been in the skin-care business for more than 35 years and has worked at the famous Ana Aslan anti-aging research institute in Europe. She designed Toscana to be a soothing retreat—the two-story spa has comfortable cream-colored furniture, bare-brick walls, and high ceilings (click here for photos). Call ahead to schedule an entire day of beautifying, or book a single service and use your Groupon over the course of multiple visits.

The value of this Groupon can only be applied towards facials or hair services.

Reviews

Citysearchers and Insider Pagers give Toscana European Day Spa five stars, Yelpers give it a three-star average, and Boston CityVoters made it a top five Best Day Spa in 2009.

  • I have very sensitive skin and her products are always top notch and I've never had a reaction. My skin glows and feels nourished. – Lucyv1, Citysearch
  • Momma Toscana, it's true, you are a miracle maker! My face doesn't go through the all those monthly breakouts since visiting you. My stylists recommended I try a facial with you and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. – alex321123, CityVoter

Groupon Says

History of Hot Yoga

Hot yoga, in which yoga is practiced in rooms heated up to 110 degrees, was first discovered by accident during the Great Yoga Fire of 1556. The danger to students in the burning yoga studio was undeniable, but so too were the increased benefits of practicing yoga in such extreme heat. All 44 students declined to leave the studio and were commended for their bravery.

For the next 400 years, there were no safe methods to practice Hot Yoga, until modern technology allowed the exercise to be practiced without danger of catching on fire. Today you get all the benefits of being on fire with none of the drawbacks.
