Guide dressed in full pirate or colonial regalia lead guests along Meeting Street as they point out the area’s most historically significant pubs. They regale guests with tales of Prohibition-era criminals, early drinking habits, and other historical oddities, including that time when drinking a full gallon of milk was temporarily outlawed in Charleston in the 1900s. Throughout the tour, groups will stop into select watering holes to sample the storied brews for themselves at an extra cost.

Sunny yellow hangers are the calling cards of DoodyCalls' technicians. If you see one on your doorknob, you know they've recently stopped by to scoop up the unpleasant packages your dog has deposited on the lawn. You also know they've done a thorough job, since the techs disinfect their pooper-scooper tools between each home to prevent parasites or diseases from spreading. Beyond their typical residential waste removal, the employees will also change kitty-litter boxes—litter is included—or extract pet waste from entire neighborhoods. Even if their work didn't speak for itself, high-profile publications have, including Forbes, Good Housekeeping, and the Wall Street Journal.
You can hear the dogs before you can see them: the sound of playful barks and panting as tails thump on the ground. The happy pups at In The Dog House spend up to 10 hours a day romping with like-sized dogs throughout the 7,200-square-foot play area at their disposal. The space is divided into four indoor and two outdoor areas, with larger dogs and smaller dogs playing in separate areas to prevent the little dogs trying to hitch piggyback rides atop the larger ones. Canines spending the night can lie down in their own individual, climate-controlled kennel.
The staff at Gullah Crematories help bereaved pet owners commemorate their faithful companions with respectful, professional cremation services. Premium bedding. Fine china. Beautiful paintings, which only occasionally come to life. Knotty Dogs Boarding has many of the things you'd expect to find at a resort, except for human tourists. The groomers at Tidy Dogs Grooming Spa understand that a beloved cat or dog is a part of the family, and not just a pet. In this spirit, they maintain an open-door policy so that owners can observe the entire grooming process, from the first dip in the bath to the last snip of the haircut. They make sure each bath is safe and sanitary with natural, soap-free shampoos or optional specialized shampoos intended for pets with issues such as excessive shedding, fleas, or mailman envy. In addition to its long list of services, the center offers complete spa packages as well as upgrades for teeth brushing and nailcare treatments.
When Michael Ammermon first went to school, his aim was to become a pediatrician. But when he began working with a local veterinarian, it seems he found his calling. Along the way, he met Myra Burnsed in vet school, who would become both his wife and business partner. Together, they operate Pooler Veterinary Hospital, where they and their animal-loving staff care for animals with the kindness of pet owners. For added convenience, they send reminders to clients so they don't forget their pets' next wellness visits, perform procedures on a heated surgery table, and even offer mobile services for elderly pets with mobility issues.

To owners Rosanne and Tom Hayes, For Pet's Sake is more of a motto than a business name. Rosanne, a registered nurse, gives pets the same love, care, and scratches behind the ear every family member deserves. With her husband Tom, she eliminates the stress and anxiety pets experience at kennels, opting instead to take care of dogs and cats in their own homes. When owners are away, the pet sitters play with furry family members, take them for walks, and administer any required medications.
Back at their brick-and-mortar shop, For Pet's Sake's groomers—each of whom has at least 20 years experience—ready pets for daily gambols or formal dinner parties, using hypoallergenic shampoos and conditioners to silken coats and never caging animals.
