If the atmosphere inside The Cat's Meow strikes first-time visitors as particularly familial, the reason may be that the salon’s proprietors share more than aesthetic expertise—all three of them are sisters. For more than 20 years, Melissa Raynak, Pixie Melton, and Meghan Mowbray—along with their team of aestheticians and nail technicians—have pampered skin and nails with treatments that range from basic facials and express pedicures to all-inclusive spa-day packages. In each of their skin-therapy treatments, the spa’s aestheticians employ professional products that eschew mineral oil, lanolin, and allergens such as gluten to ensure that skin responds positively. Armed with bottles of OPI polish and paraffin wax, they turn their attention to fingers and toes to soften calluses and fluff nail beds.
Tame misbehaving tendrils with a Brazilian blowout that will improve tress condition and imbue hair with a smooth, healthy sheen sans harsh chemicals. As Le Motive's Brazilian blowout pros free hair from its frizz shackles in a quick 90 minutes, sip on a complimentary glass of wine or other beverage and imagine all the perks your new 'do will afford you, from the siren-like adoration of suitors to your mother's actual approval. Serious multitaskers can blog about the luxe experience using Le Motive's free WiFi before exposing newly radiant locks to the world for up to the next 12 fuss-free hair weeks.
The aestheticians at Serenity Salon welcome clients into a salon whose eggshell-blue walls surround peach-colored manicure stations and sumptuously cushioned pedicure chairs separated by swoops of blue and white chiffon. Nail artists enhance fingertips with bright polish and refresh weary soles with footbaths before layering toenails with a sweet pink or the blushing red of a fire engine caught practicing its dance moves on the station's pole. While banishing fuzz from bikini areas or upper lips, waxing technicians maintain a friendly rapport with clients.
Curly-hair specialist Michelle Newkirk opened Hair Designers to cut, color, and straighten hair on men, women, and children. Surrounded by a brick fireplace, large windows, and plenty of sunlight, she warmly welcomes guests who sink into the salon's black leather seats. Equipped with Deva Curl products to add bounce to curls and certified in the Japanese hair straightening system to smooth unruly locks, Michelle will work to achieve any hair-based request.
In addition to its expertise in follicular evictions, Unique Arch boasts a convenient downtown State Street location with free two-hour street parking, resulting in stress-free hair removal of even the most unruly head caterpillars. Walk-ins are welcome.

Clients seem to love their stylists at Willamette Hair Studio. Maybe it's because the stylists here know exactly how to give people the looks they want. The team finds inspiration for formal updos in their clients' existing hair styles and streaks in natural-looking highlights that give 'dos an extra bit of flair. In the same visit, an aesthetician can remove
stray brow hairs or make underarm fuzz a concern you can shelve for a few more weeks with waxing. All the little extras count, too: a private treatment room gives clients plenty of breathing room during waxing treatments, and a line of hair products for dogs makes it easy for your furry friend to look put-together at his next outing to Dawg Haus, the hottest dog nightclub.

When and how did you first realize you wanted to be involved in hair styling?
When I was a teenager I loved playing with everyones hair. My
aunt owned a salon, so I knew I wanted to have my own one day. And now I have hers.
What's the biggest mistake you see clients make when they style their hair at home?
They are not taking care of their hair and color by not using professional shampoo and styling products.
For many people, a trip to the salon is a way to enjoy some "me time." What supplemental courtesies do you offer to make guests feel relaxed?
It's a comfortable, mellow environment.
In the sumptuous confines of Glamour! Beauty. Body. Boutique., chandeliers glimmer above pink-and-white-striped walls, plump black sofas, and rose-colored armchairs. Marie Antoinette and her courtiers would look at home amid the salon’s ornate black scrollwork and pink satin.
From the salon walls, the framed visages of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe watch deft stylists wield Paul Mitchell products as they snip and color clients’ locks to reflect classical dos or avant-garde trends. The team can also lengthen locks with hair or feather extensions and craft updos for formal occasions. In addition, the salon offers facials that use Bioelements products, waxing services, and eyelash extensions.
Framed by a bold façade of magenta and eggshell white , Le Pink Boutique’s store windows draw in visitors with their extravagant displays of chic, seasonal clothing, swimwear, and jewelry. Like the mesmerizing courtship dance of the lophorina superba, the bustling shop’s exotic decor fascinates passersby with a flurry of feathers and color. Chandeliers cast showers of light through crystal prisms upon walls striped in pink and cream, an antique golden loveseat, and jungles of slender candles and snaky black feather boas. Nestled among the mirrors with gilded frames and strewn-about roses, chunky jewelry and twirly summer dresses hint at adorable outfits to come, and mannequins flaunt saucy lingerie ensembles.
Reflections Salon is nestled within a gray-shingled house, where it surrounds clients with soft green walls as Yufang Luo augments their natural beauty by skillfully rendering Chinese tradition-derived salon services. Vibrant red pops from plush chairs, which, like trains and the people who award Olympic medals, are hoisted on elevated platforms to facilitate easy pedicure work. This work involves Chinese reflexology techniques, such as stimulating acupressure points. Sleek leather strips atop the manicure station cosset elbows in comfort as Luo works to open energy channels while simultaneously prettifying nails.
Sunlight streams in through tall windows, illuminating Headlines Styling Studio's newly remodeled interior of pale green-colored walls and dark hardwood floorboards. The open, naturally lit space takes on an easy atmosphere that's accentuated by a team of experienced stylists. Though they maintain an inviting demeanor, they approach each of their classic salon services with the attentiveness of a poet watching a bead of dew floating on a dandelion fluffy. They transform manes with the help of salon-quality products and precision cuts, removing dead ends to accentuate facial features.
Kecia Euteneier's artful hairstyling echoes the modern, boutique environs of Studio Montage, where sleek white furnishings and minimalist art catch the angular rays of mounted track lighting. Inside the Goldwell focus salon, Kecia combines scissor skills with an eye for the cutting edge as she snips and styles strands before enriching them with vibrant highlights. She can also boost head-thread count with partial or full weaves or minimize frizz and friction with keratin treatments that keep strands smooth and help them slip out of hockey helmets in record time.
Even with 20 years of experience under her comb, Irina Arce still thinks of herself as a student. Every six months, she enrolls in continuing-education classes to ensure that she's keeping up with all the latest trends in cuts and coloring. Irina can flex her styling skills with a sleek scissor cut or tailor a color to an individual's personality, complexion, or star sign. Guests may also request a specialty straightening treatment to smooth frizzy hair or an unwieldy basket of curly fries.
Tropical Waves Salon evokes an island paradise, from the exotic plants and greenery throughout the space to its decor, which includes wicker furniture and oversized flip-flops that hang on the salon's sand-colored walls. The hairstylists can produce beach-ready looks, too, from gilded highlights to spiral perms. Tropical Waves also has skin and nail technicians on hand who offer pampering spa facials, swift hair removal, and mani-pedis complete with sea-salt exfoliation.
"Do you want to just cut hair or do you want to be a master stylist?" This is the question that JohnnyMatthew's Hairdressing Training Systems encourages students to ask themselves. The academy is an exclusively Paul Mitchell school piloted by two award-winning veterans of the industry, and they teach pupils who want to hone their craft. Students learn in classrooms and in the sun-flooded salon where they cut, color, and condition clients' dos.
