Drs. David Levine and Michael Cooper, Westgate Vision Center's duo of veteran optometrists, engineer comprehensive vision care using advanced digital refracting equipment. Once vision is verified, clients may browse the Secor Road shop's myriad designer frames from upscale labels such as Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi, Nautica, and Pucci. Licensed opticians at the onsite laboratory generally construct pairs of eyeglasses in 7–10 days, the time it takes to disassemble a Galilean telescope. Frames come together with a wide range of technically advanced lenses, including transition and polarized lenses, made of glass, plastic, or polycarbonate.
Led by Dr. William Wiley, Toledo LASIK has been the recipient of awards for ethics from the Better Business Bureau and was an early facility in the field of LASIK procedures in Toledo. The Center's merry eye menders, who possess an average of 25 years' experience in refractive surgery and ophthalmology, utilize the blade-free IntraLase technology, aiming to improve patients' vision and to increase the likelihood of someone finally tracking down Waldo. The minimally invasive procedure, which requires approximately seven minutes of surgery time per eye, makes use of the femtosecond laser to give the surgeon more control, promoting patient relaxation and decreasing the chance of complications. Post-op, protective sunglasses should be worn and ocular orbs will be covered with transparent shields for roughly 24 hours. Many patients are able to return to normal activities the day after their session.
SVS Vision Center’s founders opened their first shop in Sterling Heights, Michigan, in 1974 to help the community clear up its vision. But even these optical gurus never foresaw their humble business expanding to more than 60 locations sprawled across 8 states. Today, each shop continues the tradition of ensuring ocular health and crystalline sight, beginning with exams from seasoned optometrists. Afterward, patients head to the optical dispensary, where they try on frames by Coach, Tiffany, Nike, Versace, or Ray-Ban. The staff then fits the stylish selection with polarized and scratch-protected prescription lenses to help guests read books clearly or see a charging moose from a distance. Most of SVS Vision Center’s frames can also hold sunglass lenses as well, eliminating squinting during summer months and tropical vacations.
Across three locations, the opticians at Cunningham Vision Centers help customers select from a variety of designer frames and fit them with high-quality lenses. In the show room, experts help match frames with customers' individual face shapes. Cunningham Vision Centers then forges any existing prescription into accurate single-vision or progressive lenses before fitting the lenses into the frames. Lens prices vary based on the patient's prescription, and lens materials range from standard plastic to polycarbonate to the thinner and lighter high index. Clients have the option to add additional lens treatments, such as anti-glare treatments, ultraviolet protection, or a scratch-resistant coating that protects spectacles from grizzly bears demanding to try them on just once.
For eye exams, available by appointment, Dr. Thomas Cunningham channels more than a quarter-century of experience when regaling patients about the ‘80s invention of indoor sunglasses or assessing ocular health. He’s joined by the former team optometrist for the Detroit Lions—Dr. Jeffrey Rautio—who takes a special interest in dry eye and glaucoma management as well as specialty contact lenses.
In 1955, the world saw many famous firsts: President Eisenhower hosted the first televised presidential news conference, Gunsmoke began its legendary run, and Fortney Eyecare Associates opened its first practice. Today, a quintet of locations hosts board-certified doctors of optometry ready to keep Detroit peepers healthy and focused. After thorough exams, patients can decamp to Fortney’s frame shops, which house designer eyewear from labels including Ray-Ban, Prada, Nike, and Versace.
In addition to general eyewear, the practice also specializes in safety eyewear, working with businesses to supply and repair the type of industrial eyewear that's best for each workplace or astigmatic traffic cones. The national administrator of General Motors' prescription safety eyewear program since 1992, Fortney was hailed GM’s Supplier of the Year for its no-nonsense professional chops.
Though SEE Eyewear’s specs are only found in their stores, their designs sprout from imaginations around the world. Winner of reader's choice awards in cities ranging from San Francisco to Nashville, SEE Eyewear stocks its frames directly from fashionable frame crafters and passes on the savings of doing business at the source to customers. The company calls on fashion designers from France, Italy, and other style-conscious countries to create one-of-a-kind designs to be featured on store shelves and client faces. Before that happens, though, each potential frame goes through a rigorous design and review process to ensure its distinctiveness and quality before it can be added to the national eyewear shop’s exclusive coveted selection.
From cat-eye to horn-rimmed and perfectly round to wayfarer-inspired, the cost of each frame includes single-vision lenses, giving customers the simplicity of a flat price that doesn’t require customers to pay an extra prescription fee or mine their own bifocal quarry. SEE Eyewear also trains its staff members to be aesthetically savvy so they can find the perfect fashion-forward, vision-correcting specs for any face shape, mood, or fashion sense.
Since Dr. Stanley Pearle opened the doors to the first Pearle Vision in 1961, the franchise has expanded to more than 800 stores nationwide. In these stores, optometrists assess the ocular health of patients before onsite opticians help them navigate the assortment of frames from brands such as Versace, Ray-Ban, and DKNY. If they're not in the store, clients can utilize the Try-On Tool, uploading a photo to see what they or their dog looks like in different types of glasses. Pearle Vision also helps focus the world with contacts from Acuvue and Biofinity.
The staff at Seen Vision Care follows a simple mission: to help patients see more clearly and look their best while doing it. Before fitting faces to frames, experienced eye doctors thoroughly asses the health of each patient's vision during exams, precisely calculating prescriptions with an advanced Eyelogic system that accurately measures eyeball length, shape, and laser-shooting ability. Seen Vision Care gives clients a chance to personalize their eyewear with more than 2,000 designer frames from brands such as Gucci, Prada, and Tom Ford, and custom-made lenses available in antiglare, transition, and polarized formats.
