In a Nutshell

Renowned club reverses frowns with standup shows, Whose Line Is It Anyway? tribute & classes teaching comic basics.

The Fine Print

People often laugh when they're scared, which is why any good vampire hunter keeps his or her holy water in a seltzer bottle. Stay brave with this GrouponLive deal to The Comedy Shrine Theater in Aurora. All shows require a two-drink minimum per patron. Doors open 30 minutes before each show, and all seats are general admission. Choose from the following options:

  • For $13, you get two tickets to any Improv-Able Cause show, running Thursdays at 8 p.m. (up to a $26 value, including fees).
  • For $18, you get two tickets to a Friday night show (up to a $37 value, including fees), valid for the following shows:
    • Whose Line? At 8 p.m.
    • Raw Talent Showcase at 10 p.m.
    • Whose Line? The Naughty Show at 10 p.m.
    • Campfire Comedy at 10 p.m.

  • For $18, you get two tickets to a Saturday night show (up to a $37 value including fees), valid for the following shows:
    • Whose Line? at 8 p.m.
    • The Bar Show at 10 p.m.

  • For $125, you get one comedy class (up to a $250 value, including fees). Choose between the following:
    • Adult Level 1 Improv, taking place May 22 to July 24 on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    • Adult Standup, taking place May 23 to July 25 on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Comedy Shrine draws out unstifled snorts with classes and performances from a house company of improvisers culled from laugh institutions such as Second City, iO, and ComedySportz. These malleable jesters congregate on Thursday nights for Improv-Able Cause, an evening of long-form improv tied together by a consistent theme or narrative. Short-form improv gets attention on the weekends during Whose Line? Inspired by the hit TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, each performance involves word games and spontaneously created scenarios and characters. Whose Line? The Naughty Show spices up the proceedings with raunchy profanity, innuendo, and adults-only humor. Campfire Comedy gathers together a rogue's gallery of laugh generators, including touring comics and native talent from the Chicagoland area.

Billed as an interactive drinking game, the ad-libbed proceedings of The Bar Show govern quaffs more effectively than paying a friend to throw pinches of salt into your mouth. For fans of standup, the Raw Talent Showcase gives up-and-comers a chance in the spotlight, impressing audiences with fresh material. Those looking to hone their own comedic chops can enroll in one of the Shrine's classes. Adult Level 1 Improv teaches beginners the fundamentals of improv, and Adult Standup allows pupils to improve comic basics such as timing, stage presence, and teaching a bow tie how to perform tricks.

The Groupon Guide to: Boat Naming

Naming a boat or “ship” is probably the most important part of boat owner"ship." Here’s a guide to naming your sea craft no matter what “type” it is (this sentence was typed, which is why the quotes around “type” are funny):

Personal Yacht
A Seafoam Symphony (boat name by Mikæl)
Charity Schmarity
If This Boat’s a-Rockin’, Please Come a-Knockin’ – We Do Not Want to Drown
Martha’s Windward
Yachtoberfest
