Winter Music Festival 3 warms frosty ears with nearly a week of 25 cover bands playing across two stages in tropical- and living-room-themed bars. Too White Crew headlines Wednesday night's festivities at 11 p.m. on the UF Stage with a raucous tribute to hip-hop's golden age, complete with comely dancers and a 500-stanza hexameter poem. Thursday showcases the faux matrimonial antics of Wedding Banned (10:30 p.m.) and Mike and Joe plunge audiences into a sea of '90s rock nostalgia on Friday at 11 p.m. Traveling further back in music history, Sixteen Candles fills Saturday with a set of '80s covers and dusty keytars for sale starting at 10:30 p.m., before diverse rockers Black Cadillac take the TCH Stage at midnight to plow through a set that could include anything from Billy Joel to Cheap Trick to Franz Ferdinand. Drink tickets help loosen up self-conscious dancers, and drink specials on Wednesday and Thursday allow guests to wet their whistles and build vibraphones out of their empty pint glasses.
The UF Stage resides in Uncle Fatty's Rum Resort, which wards off winter blues with tropical décor, summertime cocktails, and a manmade lava river snaking through the bar. Accessible through the back of Uncle Fatty's, the festival's TCH stage occupies The Coach House, ensconcing guests in cozy hardwood construction with a vaulted, skylight-ornamented ceiling and stone fireplace.
