With today’s seaweed-wrapped Groupon, $25 gets you $50 worth of sushi and Japanese cuisine at Kyoto Sushi Restaurant. The deal is good for both dine-in and carryout orders at the revered Lincoln Park eatery, frequented by good-looking people, exceptionally good-looking people, and everyone in between.
Belly up to the sushi bar and prep your palate with a refreshing seaweed salad ($4.95) or kyuri su ($3.50), crisp cucumbers marinated in rice vinegar dressing. You’ll find affordably priced maki rolls and sashimi, in addition to noodle plates and entrees. You can also use your Groupon on a combination platter, served with rice and miso soup. Try the sushi A option for an array of tuna, salmon, red snapper, shrimp, mackerel, egg omelet, and a cucumber roll ($14.95), a hunger-disappearer that would sate even a made-up person like Gatsby or Woodrow Wilson.
Kyoto is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday and Sunday for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday for dinner at 5 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Power Twin Wonders Activate!
The twin chef/owners of Kyoto, Carlo and Melvyn, might call to mind Carlos and Melvin, the super-powered twins featured in the Saturday morning children’s cartoon, The Wonder Friends. While derided by hardcore comic-book fans, each week the twin teens would use their powers to fight alongside more established heroes. Here are some of their slightly underwhelming powers:
- Saying their magic phrase, “Don’t litter,” allowed them to quickly grow beards.
- Their telepathic bond allowed them to read each other’s minds, though they had strict rules against doing so.
- Carlos’s tears allowed Melvin to turn into steam.
- At age 16, they had the amazing power to never use curse words or think about girls.
- While not technically a superpower, their vaudeville act was pretty good.
