Yogi teaches fundamentals with comprehensive posture breakdown as students of all ages perform poses that melt stress and boost vitality
Dharma Yoga New York
Sri Dharma Mittra began his yoga journey in 1958. He studied the classical eight limbs yoga and karma yoga under Sri Swami Kailashananda, who is credited for introducing Hatha yoga to the western world. Now in his 70s, Sri Dharma Mittra shares his wisdom with others during many of the lessons, which are held seven days a week in the intimate studio awash in lush gold tones. At the beginning of class, the instructor sits upon a small dais bathed in natural light as students line the wood floors with their mats. Sri Dharma Mittra’s 13 practices and workshops focus on strength- and flexibility-enhancing postures, connected with deep breathing and improving relaxation and mental focus through meditation and philosophy. His kindness, sense of humor, and joy for life are infused into each lesson as he reiterates that "without the Yamas, known as the ethical rules, there is no success in yoga." Dharma Yoga also grants training and certificates for those wishing to share the art with others or replace their framed photos of pet sea monkeys.
