Horses and ponies require human guidance to keep from brushing against barbed wire, eating poisonous rocks, and galloping triumphantly into the ocean. Take the reins with this Groupon.

$120 for Ranch-Themed Birthday Party ($240 Value)

Up to eight guests arrive at the 160-acre ranch, where they saddle up horses and ponies and ride across the arena. Parents and small children are also allowed to attend for no extra charge. Then, partiers tour the ranch facilities and test their ability for interspecies communication at a petting zoo that features farm animals. Festivities wind down at a campfire pit, where groups can cook brought-from-home food, eat cake, and unwrap presents.

49 Rivers Ranch

At 49 Rivers Ranch, horses leisurely graze on 160 acres of natural-grass pasture as the farm’s two young ranch hands tend to a 30-stall barn and indoor riding arena. Against this idyllic backdrop, owner DJ Dale sparks riders’ passion for equestrianism with Western and English lessons and trail rides through miles of pastoral wilderness. The Ranch also hosts birthday parties, inviting revellers young and old to ride horses indoors, interact with cuddly residents from the petting zoo, and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Groupon Guide to: The Little Engine That Could

The inspirational children's tale The Little Engine That Could was first published in 1906 as Story of the Engine that Thought It Could. Here are the other names the publisher considered before settling on the memorable final title:

  • The Little Engine That Couldn't (Or So He Thought!)
  • The Little Engine That Could Talk but That Wasn't the Most Amazing Part
  • The Little Wuss Train That Tricked Itself into Being Good Enough
  • Murder in Monaco: A Jack Trane Mystery
  • The Little Engine That Could Before Being Made Obsolete by Airplanes

When will airplanes finally be the only form of public transportation?
