on the 5280 website, will this ask for a coupon code after you enter your contact/payment information? or do we have to mail it in? didn’t want to enter anything since i would be paying for my subscription through groupon…
I previously had a subscription, although I did not renew (it ended a few months ago.) Am I eligible to use this Groupon?

But as I’m sure you can imagine, even our regular sub rate doesn’t begin to even cover the cost of printing and mailing you a magazine each month (not to mention the many other costs of creating 5280). Our hope is that after getting 5280 for a year, you’ll see the value in renewing. If you aren’t getting $14 in value, you absolutely shouldn’t renew — but we sure hope you find it worthwhile.

I just got word that 5280 is getting bombarded by people asking questions about redemption.
If you purchase the deal today all of the redemption instructions will be on the Voucher. If you follow those instructions there shouldn’t be a problem!

I am following the instructions on the Voucher. I have visited the linked website, and have attempted to enter my groupon ID (of form xxxx-xxxx) I try to enter it as xxxxxxxx as I am told, and am recieving the error: This coupon cannot be located.
Can I have assitence?

Kyle- Are you entering your Groupon ID code or your Bar code?
I just want to make sure that I am clear on the fine print. The deal is for 12 issues and the expiration date of Jan 2011 does not mean that the subscription ends on Jan 2011, correct? It would end July/August 2011?
Megan – I am entering my bar code. Perhaps that’s the problem. Where might I find my Groupon ID code?
You can ignore my last question – I now realize I just need to redeem the voucher by Jan 2010. My bad!
Megan – FYI, the link that you posted does not appear to ask for the voucher ID.

I’ve tried the same thing, and then I noticed the voucher has a redeemable after date of July 14th, 12am. Also, my coucher has the link under “HOW TO USE THIS” as item number 2.
(This would go along with agreeing not to use it today, which I had to do in ordre to print it.) I’m thinking that by tomorrow they will all be in 5280’s system and we will be able to redeem!

1. The redemption link was wrong on our end so again I apologize. It is up to date now and ready for you to use starting tomorrow.
2. The reason for the error is because like Meghan Q said there is a redeemable after date on your voucher. The reason we have this not only for all vendors but for this one in particular is so that they can input all of your Groupon ID codes into their system so you can purchase with no issue tomorrow and they can track and match up names and Groupon IDs.

Hi! I am new to this Groupon and have never made a purchase until today. I bought this mag for both me and friend. I am just curious at how long it takes for the sale to go through? My order says it is currently pending (and has been for a few hours.)

I got to the website, put in the coupon code which took me to another site where I started to put my address in and the website went away (? crashed?). I tried to reaccess and your website says the coupon is already checked out. What do I do now? Not happy about this…..
OK…so if I wasn’t so pushy…I’d have read that it couldn’t be used until tomorrow. Will my coupon still be checked out tomorrow or will it recycle and allow me to use tomorrow?
When I enter my payment info, the message comes back that what I entered is “done, but with errors.” what does that mean? It doesn’t look like it went through.

Sandra- Like i said before, you can not redeem today. The reason it wouldn’t take your information is because the codes have not been uploaded in to the system so everyone is being rejected.
So yes you will be able to use this tomorrow

My credit card was charged today for the $7.00. I just saw your note, Megan, that seems to state that the mag. request didn’t go through. Could you tell me, do I need to reapply, or just leave things as they are, since I have already paid?

Sanda D- Yes. You will need to go on and enter your information tomorrow for your subscription. The payment goes to us here at Groupon first but in order for you to actually get your subscription you must go on as early as tomorrow to sign up for your subscription as they have to input each voucher code for each purchaser in to their system.

Daniel Brogan, 5280 what a business model that it. I understand your need for new customers but why not try to keep the ones you have happy. I will call and cancel tomorrow. I feel the need to save you all the money you must be paying on a regular subscription customer like myself. Classic.

Lawrence W- Lets calm down a bit. I think you are taking this a bit too personal and that is not the intent from Groupon or 5280.
If you feel the need to cancel that is your prerogative.
I am sorry that you are dissatisfied with this particular deal. To be quite honest this whole “new customers” only is not a new fine print addition. Many other businesses chose to use this such as salons, spas, yoga studios, gyms.
As a rep for Groupon and an advocate for promoting businesses and gaining new customers i see nothing wrong with this phrase.
The whole purpose of Groupon is for people to get off their butts try new things and tell their friends about it. From the business perspective, yes they would like to reward their loyal customers but sometimes there are other ways to do it! Its not about giving out free handouts to people all the time because essentially that will put them out of business and that is not our goal.
I for one don’t even live in Denver and I get 5280 each month!

Lawrence, yes, subscription revenue doesn’t remotely cover our costs. That’s why there’s advertising in the magazine. That’s what pays the bills — and allows us to offer subscriptions at such a low rate. In essence, even at $14, you’re already getting a huge discount. We hope you think it’s worth it, but if not I understand.

Geez for all of the cheapos out there who are paying full price – you can’t even afford 4 cents a day for a magazine. Why did you subscribe in the first place?
Things go on sale after you buy them. That’s tough luck. It happens in all businesses and if you ran a business you would know this.
I am thrilled to have this opportunity to save a few bucks off 5280 for my office. As the daughter of a newspaper man I am well aware that the subscription fee comes nowhere close to covering costs and don’t find your offer insulting in the slightest.
Thank you for exploring interesting new advertising avenues like Groupon! I wish more businesses would.
Following the revised e-mail link and instructions. Still not working… I don’t want to spend an hour trying to get a redemption code to work to save $7 on a subscription. What is the problem with this one?
Groupon # not working. Any suggestions?
Instructions say to omit the hyphen when entering your Groupon number. My voucher # has two hyphens (of the form #######-#-#) and I have tried every possible combination and it still says “This coupon cannot be located.”
All of the codes are loaded into our system. We had over 4700 orders so it took a bit longer than we thought! You should be able to start redeeming your vouchers now. Remember to omit the hypen when entering your code.

Finally, it worked! I had to omit BOTH hyphens, and used the # at the top of the voucher, not the bar code. What a fiasco! Worth it for 5280 home delivery.
I’ve tried everything and the form will not accept my voucher number.

I also have not been able to redeem my groupon. The link only takes me to the regular website, and nothing for groupon users. What do I need to do? I have clicked on the “redeem online” link and nothing has worked.

I only received two magazines and now 5280 wants me to renew to receive more????

BOO 5280, Does not have record of Groupon transaction, and will not honor my Groupon, instead spends $$ sending me delinquent account bills. Eventhough I paid $7 through Groupon.
I will not EVER purchase that Magazine, I hope the go under soon.


Classic move by a business that is struggling. Do not reward your loyal customers by offering this to them but try to increase new business at the expense of the people who are paying the normal subscription rate. Guess I will let my subscription expire and try to get in on the next deal.
