The Issue: Homeless Pit Bulls and Rottweilers

Each year, four million cats and dogs are euthanized in U.S. shelters, according to The Humane Society of the United States, which is about one pet every eight seconds. Due to negative perceptions from the media and the public's fear and misunderstanding of their nature, pit bulls and Rottweilers tend to face these situations more often than other dogs. With behavior training, these dogs can become well-mannered breed ambassadors that are more likely to remain in their homes rather than face possible abandoment for behavior issues.

The Campaign: Training Pit Bulls and Rottweilers

If 100 people donate $10 to this Grassroots campaign, then A Rotta Love Plus can host an eight-week obedience course for 20 pit bulls and Rottweilers at risk of losing their homes because of basic, manageable training issues. The training course is designed to help more pit bulls and Rottweilers become breed ambassadors, challenging the stereotypes and negative myths often associated with their breeds. Each additional $50 raised will pay for a spay or neuter procedure for a pit bull or Rottweiler before the dog begins training classes.

A Rotta Love Plus

As unprejudiced advocates for the equal and humane treatment of all dogs, the all-volunteer organization A Rotta Love Plus (ARLP) works to approach issues faced by Rottweilers and pit bulls. Volunteers conduct public outreach and awareness programs that repair the reputation of these breeds, including a therapy dog program with at-risk youth, spay and neuter initiatives, owner education and training, and foster-based rescue and rehoming. Along with pit-bull and Rottweiler adoption and foster-program services, ARLP hosts fairs where pet owners can take their dogs for free spay or neuter services, microchips, and vaccinations from low-cost, high quality mobile vet teams. ARLP volunteer trainers also lead eight-week obedience courses for pit bulls and Rottweilers and hold basic dog-safety programs for children.
