The city of Chicago requires cyclists riding at night to have a front headlight and a rear reflector. But it’s more than a law—it’s also essential to staying safe on the streets by increasing bikers’ visibility to drivers. And when Daylight Saving Time ends on Nov. 7, even more light-less cyclists will find themselves caught in the dark.
Active Transportation Alliance, or Active Trans, is a non-profit coalition of Chicagoland residents who want safer, healthier, and more convenient transportation choices. They envision a Chicagoland region with half as many crashes and where half of all trips are made by biking, walking and transit. Active Trans has worked to improve the safety and convenience of biking, walking, and public transit in the Chicago area for more than 25 years.
Join G-Team to help Active Trans provide cyclists riding without lights at night with the headlights they need to stay safe and within the law. At a yet-to-be announced time and location within the city, Active Trans and G-Team volunteers will equip more than 200 cyclists with free headlights, flash mob style, while educating them about staying safe on the street. Giving levels of $5 and $25 are available. Your contribution will be doubled, as The Law Offices of James M. Freeman, P.C., are matching donations up to $2,000.
Contributions will earn you an Active Trans membership, which you can redeem online with this donation Groupon. Membership benefits include:
- Free copy of the seven-county Chicagoland Bike Map (for premium members giving $25 and up)
- Discounts at more than 100 area businesses and bike shops and on Active Trans events such as Bike the Drive
- Subscription to Active Trans’ ModeShift newsletter and Traffic Signals e-bulletin
- Opportunities to help improve your community through volunteering and advocacy
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don’t offer you a “discount” or “savings.” So “buyer” beware—when you click “Buy” to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
