Choose Between Two Options

  • $95 for a Learn to Fly experience (a $205 value)
  • $107 for a Learn to Fly experience with a passenger (a $225 value)

The two-hour experience begins with an informational session that outlines how to get a pilot’s license and how instruction will be given upon getting into the training-style plane. Students spend 30 minutes in the air, during which the he or she will have a chance to fly the plane. For the second option, students can take one passenger up in the plane with them. The package also includes a kit with information about obtaining a license, a six-month subscription to Flight Training magazine, a logbook endorsed by the instructor, and a framed photo of the student taken in front of the airplane.

Adam Towne Aviation

Adam Towne, a Pan Am-trained pilot and full-time flight instructor since 2006, subscribes to the ideology of Wilbur Wright: "It is possible to fly without motors but not without knowledge and skill.” In this spirit, he leads custom instruction for students of all experience levels, from first-time flyers to out-of-practice pilots looking to refresh their skills. From his four-seat, 160 horsepower Piper Cherokee PA28-140 (which is also available for rental), Adam can take photographers skyward to capture landscapes, construction projects, or proof that birds run on tiny, feather-covered engines.

The Groupon Guide to: Clarinets

Everyone remembers hearing someone say, "If that music doesn't have dozens of clarinets tooting their notes, making the sounds come out of the end that the mouth doesn't go, then no thank you, sir!" Here's why so many people are loving the clarinet:

  • The clarinet has a warm, mellow tone, not like the trumpet, which just sounds like a big pile of garbage that's sitting there stinking it up but also making musical noises.

  • The clarinet is easy on the eyes, with all that straightness. That trumpet has sleek, alluring curves. You want kids looking at that? No, thank you.

  • You can take a clarinet apart. Can you take a trumpet apart? No, not just the mouthpiece. I'm talking about really taking it apart. You can do that to a good ol' woodstraw (a clarinet). Trust me.

  • There are dozens of famous clarinet players, such as Woody Allen and all those men that Woody Allen plays clarinet with. The only trumpet player who is remotely famous is the man whose life inspired the Broadway musical The Music Man, and he's probably dead.

Why is America in love with the clarinet?
