Wending past the Statue of Liberty, the Copacabana Cruise coaxes guests onto the dance floor where a live DJ drops hypnotic rhythms of blaring salsa and merengue music. An ever-changing lineup of talent—including members of The New York Samba School or the band Mais Um—brings authentic flavor to the Brazilian Cruise, which includes a DJ spinning club volume level ebullient Brazilian tunes into the night. A dress code banning T-shirts, sneakers, and sweatpants is strictly enforced for all cruises, and guests are encouraged to don professional or trendy togs to these nightclub inspired events.

Affairs Afloat

Bathed in the rosy glow of sunset, the Statue of Liberty seems eager to hop aboard the boat floating leisurely past her feet and take a turn about the packed dance floor. The joyful strains of merengue drift from the vessel, where a flock of well-dressed guests show off their moves and weave along the deck for a refreshing breath of night air. Dedicated to cultivating merry outings such as this, Affairs Afloat hosts a variety of cruises along the Hudson River and New York City Harbor aboard their two vessels, each Coast Guard certified for events accommodating up to 450 guests. Each themed cruise features live entertainment ranging from DJs to Brazilian bands and dance troupes, and a cash bar and cash buffet keep internal engines revved up throughout the evening. Guests unwind as they drink in unique views of the city, from glittering skyscrapers to the nesting King Kongs that call them home. Along with high-energy evening cruises for the 21+ set, Affairs Afloat also hosts Kiddie Cruises filled with activities such as face painting, magic shows, and arts and crafts.

The Groupon Guide to: Being Class President

The president of a student council rises from among his peers to lead them and guide their school toward continued greatness. If you think you have what it takes to stand at the helm of your school, read this guide to see what it would be like to be president:

  • It’s your first day back at school after being elected president. The week of victory celebrations and speeches at local landmarks has been a whirlwind. When you finally step into Gerald High for the first time as its president, the halls look somehow narrower, your classmates' faces more nondescript.

  • You take a seat at your desk in Mrs. Witack’s pre-calc class. Are they making these chairs smaller? You don’t even have a chance to open up the Gerald High School Herald to peruse the day’s top stories before Maria Elena, your newly elected secretary, rushes in to let you know there’s an urgent call from Forest Flowers Middle School. You need to go to the office to take it right away.

  • You rush through the hallways wondering what the crisis could be. Is Forest Flowers experiencing a textbook shortage? A janitor uprising?

  • As you answer the phone, your heart is racing, but for some reason the only thing you can think to wonder is how the straps of your backpack got so heavy. You answer and your voice just sounds like a gasping breath. “Hello?” says the person on the other end. “It’s Bobby Greenblatt, Forest Flowers Middle School’s newly elected president.”

  • What could he want? To challenge your presidency? To proclaim his allegiance to Ronalda Reyes, your runner-up? Maybe she did deserve it more than you. “Hello? Mr. High-School President? Are you there? It’s Bobby. I’m just calling to say: I really look up to you.”

What will be the most important call you receive as class president?
