$19 for $40 Worth of Pet Toys, Accessories, and Grooming Services

Customers can bring their pets inside as they peruse merchandise for dogs and cats. Classic Kong toys ($5.99–$15.99) entertain pooches by bouncing in unpredictable arcs. Curious cats can scratch their way up the Cosmic Catnip Alpine Scratcher ($16.99), a wedge-shaped accessory with a built-in mouse toy. The store stocks leashes, collars, coats, and grooming supplies alongside human-oriented gifts such as bumper stickers and figurines of different breeds. This Groupon may also be applied toward grooming services.

All Pets Considered

In the autumn of 1999, pets in North Carolina became separated from their owners by the floodwaters of Hurricane Floyd. Their plight prompted Kristine Godfrey, owner of All Pets Considered, to put retail concerns on the back burner. She worked with nearby rescue groups to gather emergency supplies, filling the basement of her store twice over with towels, food, and fresh water that went to aid the displaced animals. At the same time, her staff was busy earning more than $30,000 in donation funds for the Emergency Animal Rescue service.

Their efforts underscored a commitment to animal welfare that still distinguishes the business—a commitment that helped them win the Pet Retailer of the Year award from Pet Product News magazine in 2000. This devotion continually manifests in onsite adoption fairs and showcases for foster cats. What's more, employees contribute to some kind of rescue service after a day of leading customers and their furry cohorts through colorful aisles of pet accessories.

While at the shop, they might guide dogs past luxury beds, chew toys, and all-natural foods, or deliver them to the salon and spa for a thorough scrubbing. Their catalog of dangling and scratchable playthings charms felines, and their practical wares—including bowls, brushes, and collars—ready homes for frolicking paws. Humans also benefit from souvenirs such as bumper stickers and welcome mats, which bespeak a love of animals as plainly as a proposal to your vet.
