An Artist's Touch

After graduating from the Ogden Institute of Massage, Melissa Mower practiced her craft in spas and chiropractic offices alike. Today, she brings the skills she honed in those contrasting environments to her very own studio. Mower prides herself on the open communication environment that she cultivates with her clients, whose massage "wants" are just as important to her as their massage "needs." She addresses these issues and more with bodywork from modalities that include deep-tissue, Swedish, sports, and trigger-point massage. During hot-stone massages, Mower soothes deep-seated pain with carefully placed simmering rocks; during infant massage, she eases youthful discomfort by placing babies on clients' sore backs.

The Groupon Guide to: Remaining Calm

Life is full of stressful situations that challenge our ability to remain calm. Whether you're in the middle of a heated debate or being chased by a gaggle of exes, use these techniques to remain even-tempered:

Take a Deep Breath: Feeling air slowly enter and leave your lungs will remind you that nothing really matters because we are all just balloons that move air around.

Count to 10: Ten is the most calming number because when turned sideways it looks like a thin man sleeping on a big, round rock. He's freer than any of us.

Think about Something Positive: You'll feel better if you imagine something peaceful such as a smiling child, a clear blue sky, or a horse playfully biting his master's hand.

Repeat a Positive Mantra: Many people are soothed by chanting "this too shall pass," and others like to repeat "I'm the one in charge, I sail my own barge."

Which number looks like a free man? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
