Praised in NBC New York's Hip & Healthy Blog and featured on Better in addition to other publications and media, kettlebell kickboxing merges Muay Thai martial-arts maneuvers with Russian kettlebell training for a full-body, female-only workout. Classes are led by creator and lauded fitness expert Dasha Libin, equipped with a master's in sports science and over a decade's experience in martial arts. Dasha, this year's official trainer for the Miss New York USA & Miss Teen USA brands and fitness brand ambassador for lululemon athletica Soho, leads sixty-minute classes that may burn up to 1,000 calories array attendees in a mirror-lined studio as they learn specialized moves, including weighted squats, lunges, and swings that hoist the kettlebells skyward. As the nonimpact regimen tones hard-to-target muscle groups, clients can hone their balance and agility without needlessly squashing their joints or practicing perilous tightrope sprints. Classes strive to strengthen and sleekify distinct body areas: the Swing/Kick session bolsters limb leanness, whereas a Punch & Knee course employs mat exercises to kindle the burn in arms, abs, and glutes. Patrons can also flock to a total body scorcher class for kettlebell-heaving drills that incorporate both cores and appendages.

For optimum training, Dasha recommends joining two to three classes each week or one class with the kettlebells replaced by a small water buffalo. Click here for the class schedule.

Anderson's Martial Arts Academy

Sifu Dan Anderson is a walking dictionary of fighting techniques; he practices jeet kune do, kali, muay thai, Brazilian jujitsu, silat, Russian sambo, and French savate, to name a few. He showcases his expertise to programs on CBS, NBC, and the History Channel, working as an expert in the martial arts. He was even named NY1's New Yorker of the Week for the self-defense classes he teaches for women. For two decades, he's studied with the grand masters of various forms from around the world, synthesizing and sharing his hard-won knowledge within Anderson's Martial Arts Academy’s 12,000-square-foot facility, which also boasts a boxing ring and small gym area.

Dan, along with his equally seasoned and lauded partner Simo Dasha Libin Anderson, works to equip students of all ages and experience levels with a diverse toolbox of skills that hail from many martial-arts styles. In addition to combat training, Dasha leads her signature kettlebell-kickboxing and conditioning classes, in which she guides students through her trademarked method—which earned her a feature in Self magazine—to tone muscles and cultivate stamina.

The Groupon Guide to: Modern New Year's Resolutions

Society is changing faster than many of us can keep up, so it’s more important than ever that you dedicate the following year to one or more of these modern New Year’s resolutions:

  • I will gradually shift out all the air bubbles out from beneath the adhesive screen protector of my smartphone or tablet device.

  • I will limit my daily Internet time to 27 hours a day.

  • I will only buy my developing infants garish toys patterned in black, red, and white so the muscles behind their tiny eyes grow stronger with each glance.

  • I will pop only when I trust myself to be able to stop.

  • I will lose weight by joining nature’s gym: parkour.

  • I will finish at least three Kindles.

Can these modern New Year’s resolutions transform your entire life?
