From the outside, Angelica's looks like an unassuming restaurant—black awnings, plate-glass windows, people sword-fighting with baguettes. But it's not exactly a place you'd go for a quiet meal. For it's built a reputation as one of the area's most entertaining live music venues, landing spots on two of CBS-5's Best of the Peninsula lists: Best Restaurants with Live Music and Best Places to Discover New Music. The praise comes as a result of the eclectic mix of entertainers that play every night during dinner. One night might showcase a revue of Teddy Pendergrass and Ray Charles hits. On another, it could be Irish folk songs. The restaurant has three different stages (two in separate dining rooms and one outdoors during warmer months), which allows these various acts to play at the same time.
But even when there's no band playing, the venue itself is still a gem worth admiring. According to ReverbNation, it's a 1904 Victorian that survived the San Francisco earthquake, and was an antique auction house until just a few years ago. Its former incarnation is evident in the decor, from crystal chandeliers to curio cabinets, both of which are inspired by owner Peter Cuschieri's Sicilian heritage and London upbringing. In that spirit, the menus are anchored by hearty pub food, as well as Mediterranean cuisine: at brunch there are crepes and Monte Cristos, lunch brings Greek salad and fish and chips, while dinner features mussels cioppino and braised lamb shank.

“Don't go here. Although the sandwiches were decent, I think their Groupon offer of $24 for $48 for lunch, is a scam. There was nothing that expensive on their lunch menu. After purchasing the appetizer and 2 entrees like the Groupon instructs, we only saved $7. Not even close to the $24 savings.”
