Inspired by the design of an Indian temple—replete with vibrant fabrics dangling from the ceiling—Anuttara Yoga Shala had no trouble catching the attention of New Times Broward-Palm Beach, which hailed it as the Best Yoga Studio of 2012. The space recently underwent an expansion to encompass nearly 8,000 square feet, including two 1,600-square-foot yoga rooms.

The Kula Room, with its spacious floor plan and minimal decor, stays at a balmy 85 degrees during nonheated classes such as yoga barre. The dimly lit Grand Tapas Hall, however, facilitates deeper stretching with a thermostat set to a sweat-inducing 95 degrees. This higher temperature loosens muscles, expels toxins, and thaws ancestors preserved in ice during 90-minute hot-yoga classes. New class offerings, to go along with the studio's recent expansion, include suspension yoga and chakra spinning.

When they aren’t teaching yoga classes, the studio’s 15 certified instructors pass on their knowledge to apprentices in training rooms and a well-stocked library. Other amenities include spa-like bathrooms with showers and a boutique area lined with yoga accessories and apparel.
