Choose Between Two Options

  • $125 for a two-day avalanche-rescue-and-safety course for one (a $299 value)
  • $250 for the above course for two (a $598 value)

Conducted over one weekend at Rocky Mountain National Park and the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, the Avalanche Level 1 Experiential course reviews the essentials of staying safe in Colorado's winter backcountry. After completing eight hours of online coursework at their leisure, students undergo two days of field training in both avalanche-rescue tactics and strategies for safe snow travel. Though the course fee includes instruction and required readings, students must either provide their own equipment—such as skis, shovels, and beacons for blinding prowling yetis—or rent gear from Apex Ex for an industry-standard rate.

Apex Ex

The mountain-savvy staff at Apex Ex equip people of all skill levels with the knowledge, gear, and plans necessary to explore the wilderness all year round. Seasoned guides and instructors, many of whom are trained by organizations such as the National Outdoor Leadership School and the American Mountain Guides Association, lead classes that teach students important lessons ranging from backcountry snow basics to avalanche rescue. They also lead extreme excursions, such as heliskiing, which drops gliders in the untouched powder at the tips of the Rockies for a day of daring athleticism and exclusive interviews with clouds. In summer months, the experts lead guided climbing and backpacking trips and teach riders to careen down rocky paths of every sort during mountain-biking lessons.

The Groupon Guide to: Diary Greetings

Fewer and fewer people are keeping diaries now that it's possible to quickly broadcast your feelings on social-media sites such as Facebook, TalkHole, and Spewr. If you're holding on to the past, at least keep your diary entries fresh by starting them with one of these "Dear Diary" substitutes:

  • Hello, book
  • Good to see you, paper thing
  • Diary, you're the only one that listens to me. Here I go!
  • Hey journal, you ready for some illegible scribbles?
  • Good morning, and thank you for letting me do this to you again.
  • OK, time to cover your body in my feelings.
  • Greetings, may our time together be fruitful (kiss the diary).
  • Vrrrrooom! Here comes the choo-choo pen down the diary tracks!
  • I've done terrible things and these are a few.

Spewr lets you share your feelings with friends—on the Internet!
