$139 for an Outdoor Climbing and Rappeling Vertical Adventure ($295 Value)

A hike through the McDowell Sonoran Preserve brings participants to vertical, granite rock cliffs. Here, they strap into provided helmets, climbing shoes, and harnesses, receive a lesson on rock-climbing fundamentals, and scale the looming, gray stone walls. Recommended for beginners and experienced indoor climbers, the seven-hour excursion encompasses a choice of routes that all conclude with breathtaking views. Trip organizers estimate that roughly 30% of the challenge takes place on the ground and 70% consists of climbing and rappelling.

Arizona Climbing and Adventure School

Since hosting their first class in 1989, Arizona Climbing and Adventure School's instructors have sent an estimated 37,000 students scurrying up the earth's craggy cliffs. Instead of learning climbing in an indoor facility, participants climb nature’s precipices outdoors upon the Southwest's cliffs and mountains. Adventurer and school director Mark Brontsema guides his students and fellow instructors by a philosophy that emphasizes self-reliance, goal setting, and teamwork. He now brings more than three decades to his post as school director, taking time from a busy schedule that includes writing gear reviews for the New York Times.

The school offers a large number of courses that target students of varying skill levels and reveal technique secrets in small groups of two to six students. Classes may focus on rappelling and anchors, guide services, and equipment-free bouldering, which relies solely on the climber's hands, feet, and retractable suction cups. Adventure courses include day trips and overnight climbing excursions, while special workshops address topics such as backpacking, being an ecologically responsible climber and hiker, and using GPS devices.

The Groupon Guide to: Victorian Housekeeping

Victorian England was a truly innovative time, and many of their practices are still used today. Give your home a timeless feel with these useful Victorian housekeeping tips:

  • One is advised to keep a hedgehog in one’s kitchen to track and consume winged pests. He should be given a ceremonial hat and epaulets and thusly referred to as one’s kitchen soldier.

  • When polishing one’s bronzed baby teeth and statues of weeping seraphim, one must never wipe in the vulgar counterclockwise motion.

  • Cleanse a room with fire should anyone have committed nudity in it.

  • Ease your toils by apprehending a passing waif and attach soaped mops to his stalwart feet. Then inform him that this Christmas he shall receive a portion of sweet meats. His excited dances will clean all that surrounds him. Once done have the police escort him to the debtors' prison.

  • Only tears of genuine repentance shall remove any stains from spilt food.

Why is history full of weirdos? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
