During Laughing Devil Comedy Club’s once-a-month Bleep! show, some of New York City’s dirtiest, most unabashed comedians storm the stage for a night of uncensored, no-holds-barred standup. On January 31, a lineup of seven veteran comics fills swear jars with its wealth of blush-worthy material. Comedy Central–featured joke artist Jim Mendrinos, author of the The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Comedy Writing, muses on his dramatic weight loss and politics, and funnyman J-L Cauvin inverts frowns with a style of observational humor that earned him a mention in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Jokes. Other acts include the relentlessly self-deprecating Scott Sharp and Regina DeCicco, a comedienne whose spot-on impression of elderly smokers helped her land first place in the 2012 Ladies of Laughter competition, as well as a senior discount at the Waffle House.
Laughing Devil Comedy Club
Founded by Queens native and The Late Late Show vet Steve Hofstetter, Laughing Devil Comedy Club lobbed its inaugural laughs in late 2011. Its debut on the city's comedy scene came after weeks of anticipation and attention in the New York Post, the Queens Courier, and the Queens Tribune. Within its intimate 70-seat venue, bartenders draw from a top-shelf drink menu to forge potions such as The Andy Kaufman's blend of Saint Germain, Patrón tequila, and pineapple or pour drafts of Chimay Triple, brewed in the traditional manner by Belgian prop comics.
