Each day of the year when the weather is good, horseback riders and sleigh passengers depart for the highland trails that wind across 80 acres of land. Passing snowy Rocky Mountain peaks jutting above evergreen forest, the lodge’s knowledgeable wranglers guide each trail ride, and identify for the uninitiated such sights as Longs Peak and the Continental Divide. A team of belgian draft horses sport festive sleigh bells as they ferry passengers through the trail system, pulling sleighs when there’s snow on the ground and wheeled wagons when there isn’t. On each ride, passengers may share the trails with a host of local wildlife, including elk, coyotes, bears, and bobcats, and the ghosts of gold prospectors cursing at boulders.
