It combines the efforts of sister dance companies, teams up dance teachers who are also a mother-and-daughter duo, and, of course, forges a new family out of its regular attendees. Instead of taking meals together, however, this family bonds through a sweat-filled workout. During classes, teachers tap backgrounds in ballet, hip hop, Zumba, and Afro-Brazilian dance to choreograph new fitness routines. They often base these routines on songs suggested by their classes, giving students a chance to memorize dance steps to their favorite club beat or traditional family sword dance.
