The stone road outside Athenian Seafood Restaurant and Bar tips off its age. The eatery opened in 1909 as a bakery, but throughout the next 100 years, the kitchen replaced its baked goods with Seattle's backup currency: seafood.

Today, chefs cull fresh fish from Pike Place Market and plate northwestern wild salmon, Alaskan halibut, Dungeness crab, and Alaskan king crab. Seafood abounds in breakfast dishes, such as eggs benedict and frittatas, and in cupfuls of housemade shrimp bisque and new england clam chowder.
