Hi Marsha! Here is an answer from the merchant that you may find helpful:

"IPL will focus more on discoloration and sun damage where as the Genesis helps mostly with pore size, fine lines and wrinkles, redness, and texture of the skin. There is also no downtime with the genesis treatment unlike the IPL which can have up to 3 days of down time depending on the depth of the treatment"
