Questions and Answers

If I were to purchase the class for two and bring my wife would you require both of us to have a camera? We would both like to attend a class but purchasing a second DSLR just for the class isn't an option.

Sean: It's not necessary for both of you to have a camera. Many couples share their camera in class. It is perfectly ok. Thanks for your question.

I'd like bring my 11-year old godson with me. As I just gave him a DSLR camera; I figure that we can both benefit from such a class. He's a pretty mature 11. But I need to know if there are age restrictions.

Urounda: We typically ask that our students be in at least High School and can handle sitting still and quietly for at least 4 hours. They will likely be in a class with mostly adults so they need to feel comfortable with that. If you decide to bring your Godson with you, he will also need to get a separate Groupon beside yourself... so perhaps purchasing the deal for two for $95 would be best for you. If you bring him, even though he is not of high-school age, you'll be asked to supervise him. I recall once, someone brought a child about that age to class and that child could not sit still the entire time. I found her writing on my dry erase board when I wasn't looking! Obviously, that would be a distraction for the rest of the class and that's what we are trying to avoid. Thanks for your question.

I know the class indicates DSLR but was wondering if this course would benefit those with ICL cameras (I own a Sony alpha NEX-5). If not this course, do you offer any similar courses for ICL camera owners?

Rosemarie B. asked 7 months, 19 days, 8 hours, and 9 minutes ago - 1 answer

Russell L.

Rosemarie: ICL cameras (Interchangeable lens cameras) like the Sony NEX-5 are welcome in the Photo Essentials class, but we just ask that you first make sure that you can find your Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO controls so that you aren't fumbling trying to find them in class. This could slow down the class if you cannot find these and access these three controls. Often, DSLR cameras have these readily available since there are more buttons on a DSLR camera. For mirrorless ICL cameras, these three controls are usually hidden in the menus of the camera, so reviewing this first before coming to class is to everyone's advantage. If you do that in advance, you are very welcome to join in and take the class. Thanks for your question.
