During the Basic Barre class—a pre-requirement for new clients who've never taken a Barre class, but are interested in taking an open-level Barre class—certified instructors teach beginners basic terminology and body positioning while leading intense strength-conditioning, cardio, and stretching exercises. In Mat Barre classes, instructors integrate these same workouts into core-sculpting Pilates exercises. Barre Definitions

Since her first classical ballet class at the age of 5, Nami Oneda’s dance career has skyrocketed. After training at the School of American Ballet, she twirled across international stages in films and documentaries. But her success took a toll. To heal her dance-related injuries, she turned to the therapeutic exercises of Pilates, so it’s no surprise that she later fell in love with the barre method’s blend of the two. She learned barre’s blend of isometrics, total-body conditioning, and dance exercises from the original instructors of the Lotte Berk method.

At Barre Definitions, Nami leads a team of certified instructors in challenging clients of all abilities to pursue fitness. During barre classes, the team puts clients through short bursts of cardio, intense strength conditioning, and musculoskeletal stretches that both strengthen and lengthen muscles, though likely have no effect on Tetris scores. Some of these classes incorporate weights, yoga, and mat Pilates workouts, and all are available in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. The instructors are also well trained in classic Pilates; they are masters of that discipline’s equipment. They harness the Balanced Body Allegro Pilates Reformer and Balanced Body EXO split-pedal Pilates chair to boost their clients’ core strength, balance, and control.
