Pilots are the cowboys of the air, roaming the wide-open skies and herding children's runaway balloons. Giddy up, up, and away with this Groupon.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $199 for one flight lesson (a $399 value), which includes one hour of ground instruction in the plane and 45 minutes of flight instruction
  • $459 for two flight lessons (a $918 value), which includes one hour of ground instruction and one hour of flight instruction for each lesson

Introductory flight lessons put fledgling pilots at the controls of a four-seat Cessna or Piper aircraft for 90% of their flight while a certified flight instructor provides guidance and instruction. Students can bring a friend to ride along in the plane for both options; if desired, the second option can be split between two students. Customers may also add extra flight time for an additional fee to peruse more of the Bay Area or to have both passengers fly.

Bay Area Flying Lessons

Darryl Kalthof of Bay Area Flying Lessons holds an FAA certificate as an airline transport pilot and ratings as an advanced ground instructor, honors earned over a distinguished two-decade career as a certified flight instructor. Today, he oversees a fleet of Cessna and Piper airplanes that act as airborne classrooms for his pupils, who range from 10-year-olds taking their first mechanical flights to advanced pilots earning certificates in commercial, multi-engine, and tail-wheel aviation. Lessons make use of the airspace surrounding San Francisco Bay, yielding panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean as well as many notable landmarks, including Dumbarton Bridge’s low ribbon of road and Stanford Stadium’s 70-foot animatronic statue of Bill Walsh.

The Groupon Guide to: AMC Original Dramas

It’s AMC Original Dramas season, and with that in mind, here are some of AMC's best original dramas:

Canaveral: In 1950s Florida, the National Aeronautic and Space Administration was mostly just buttoned-down scientists with no sexy intrigue and ingrained sexism, right? Wrong.

The Townes: The Townes are just a normal family until a strange loophole in the state constitution appoints each member of the family the mayor for life of five different rival towns. Old hatreds bubble and new betrayals flourish as absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Trumpet Man: Rick Greenheart has had it with his vacuous life in 1970s suburbia. So when a magical money-vomiting trumpet falls from space into his backyard, he leaves his family for a life on the road.

Making It Wright: In this period piece, the Wright brothers (played by Michael Keaton and Ted Danson) use their flying machine to undo various 1900s injustices.

Giving In: Santa Claus goes through midlife crisis, starts cagefighting career.
