Folk wisdom about looking a gift horse in the mouth is obsolete, now that horses are no longer bred to belch blinding ammonia. Enjoy improved equine exhalations with this Groupon.
Choose From Three Options
- $39 for summer camp enrollment for one child (an $80 value)
- $69 for summer camp enrollment for two children, or two enrollments for one child (a $160 value)
Summer camps run from June 8 through Aug. 3.
Kids aged 7–13 learn the art of equestrianism during single-day summer camps, which meet from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday from June 1 to August 2. Trainers lead round-robin horseback-riding lessons from 9:30 until noon, teaching skills to small groups in the ring while the rest of the students embark on guided trail rides. After a one-hour lunch, horseback-riding games entertain groups from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Camp sessions limit their class size to 15 kids and maintain a ratio of one trainer to every three children, ensuring that everyone receives personal attention. Snacks and water are provided, though campers should bring their own lunch and extra water.
- $48 for a horseback-riding lesson for two people or two private lessons for one (up to a $150 value)
During private or semi-private lessons, instructors channel 60 years of combined experience to coach riders in hunter-jumper or dressage styles.
Bel Canto Farms
Bel Canto Farms owner Suzanne Warmack has been enamored of equestrian sports since she took her first horseback ride at 18 months of age, more than 40 years ago. Now, in a facility where two dressage arenas, a derby field, and a 90-foot round pen segment the grounds, she leads a team of three regular instructors whose combined experience in teaching and showing surpasses 60 years. Since the facility is also outfitted for full boarding and pasture boarding, horse owners who lack stables or whose stables have been overrun by iguana flash mobs can house their steeds there, selecting one of three stall sizes equipped with a constant supply of hay and water and fans in summer.
