“Some are born with silver spoon in hand," Jolena says on Bella by Jolena’s website. “I came into this world holding a cosmetic brush.” What she means is that even as a child, she loved applying her mother’s makeup and face creams to her dolls. Unsurprisingly, as an adult, she gave up her corporate job to strike out on her own in the field of beauty.

Today, Jolena specializes in creating memorable pinup, vintage, theatrical, and bridal looks during makeup application sessions. She also preps her makeup canvases by performing facial treatments ranging from LED light therapy to Bioelements facials. She has some handy help, too; certified eyelash-extension artist Jenna Schneider—who won Oregon Bride’s award for best eyelash extensions in 2009—augments Jolena’s artistry with semipermanent lash extensions, which make eyes engaging even if they can't do that hypnotic swirling thing.
