In about 45 minutes, the dentist fits clients for a mouth guard that protects chompers from teeth grinding or sleepwalking face-first into boulders at night. The implant process typically requires multiple visits: the implant is surgically embedded within the jaw, and after several months of healing, the abutment and crown are affixed above it. The exam, x-rays, and cleaning last 45–60 minutes.
