During the Lego Civics & Tech course, kids build cities with Lego bricks, learning about engineering, urban planning, and government as they play. In the Chinese Immersion Lego program, Mandarin is spoken in the classroom by native speakers the entire time, so kids unfamiliar with the language can pick up it as they build with Legos and learn civics lessons.

Big Apple Education

Big Apple Education's center director possesses a great pedigree, the kind parents would want to see in a teacher: he's an educational doctoral candidate at Columbia University's Teachers College. If his own education sets him apart from the competition, then his passion for educating others similarly differentiates the programs he directs. He and his staff of professional teachers find creative ways to help kids with language, mathematics, sciences, and even standardized testing and college admissions.

They approach education in a lot of different ways, but one of the most interesting is the Lego language-learning class. Using the famed building-block toys, they and their students build a working replica of a foreign city, such as Shanghai, while focusing on the language needed to work together in class and navigate their tiny metropolis.
