Questions and Answers
I doubt all of the Bikram yoga studios are owned by the same people. So why would Groupon restrict a studio from being able to offer a discount because all of the owners in the Baltimore area didn’t want to participate in a Groupon special? That doesn’t make sense. If they were all owned by the same person then maybe these two studios have low participation and they are using Groupon as a way to drive up business.
I’m not a Groupon employee, but wanted to say something about the previous comment. While as a customer, it is annoying sometimes to find a Groupon doesn’t apply to the location that I want it to, I think I can understand why a merchant might make such choices. As a Towson alum from a LONG time ago, I remember then how busy the Towson Bateman’s was. Siblings who went to Towson after me had the same experience. My guess is the Bateman’s owners don’t NEED more business at the Towson location… they need more business at OTHER locations. I’ve noticed this with Groupons in the DC area – sometimes locations are excluded that I happen to know are quite busy, successful, while the less busy or newer ones are included. So – I would not make the assumption that the Towson Bateman’s doesn’t care about their customers – they are just pursuing a strategy that makes sense for them. Don’t take offense.

Hey Travis,
Obviously, Groupon would love to have every location of a certain business and have them all included in the feature; however all locations are not owned by the same people therefore “ALL LOCATIONS”is usually not an option unless the business owner owns every location of Bill Bateman’s or Bikram Yoga which is not the case when you see that type of restriction.
We hope that the word spreads about Groupon and how awesome it is for many reasons, not only for the customer, but for the business and you will see more locations included in deals.
Sorry but I have to disagree with the first post. I don’t think the businesses don’t care about their customers. First of all, GROUPON is a vehicle to bring new customers, not necessarily reward their current customers. Additionally, as the last three posters mentioned, businesses who have enough clientele will likely not use GROUPON until it’s necessary. It seems very unfair to judge a business by whether they have GROUPONS or not, but you could always take it up with the business as a patron and tell them how you’d would do more business with them or spread the word about their business if they offered a GROUPON, they may be receptive to getting on the program :) Just a thought.
Natalia well said. I think Groupon is so new to the area it will catch on. My husband and I own Bikram Yoga Annapolis & SP. We just found out about Groupon in April. We are hoping the groupon will help locals in the area who have been interested in attending class.
Emily, That is why I purchased the deal today. I have been meaning to try Bikram yoga for a while. I will definitely be coming to a class very soon now that I have my Groupon.
Greeeeaaat idea! I have also been wanting to sweat my bum off at a Bikram class, but they’re usually so expensive. Thanks Groupon!
I have been wanting to try Bikram for a while. Like anything new in fitness options 1-2 classes is not going to give the feel of a program or the results you may be looking for with any new fitness routine, having a one month unlimited pass at this price is fantastic and I am sure this will result in many new students and clients. Personally, this option allows me to get familiar with teachers( may not like all of thier style of teaching) the schedules, and the locations. It is a great way to get in the door, have options and at a discount. I have purchased many Groupons for things around the area , hair salons, spa services etc. It is a great way to expose a business and anyone that has a great experience will come back again. For every Groupon that I purchased, it has converted me to a repeat client. I am hoping I will like Bikram and will continue as a student.
Ive tried Bikram yoga.. and its ‘HELLA HOT’ in there! LOL.. unfortunately, I always left feeling nauseaous =(. GREAT price from Groupon!!!!
Can existing customers use this groupon or is it only good for new customers?
Chan,
Try again. I was nauseaous in the beginning as well, and even sometimes now, and I’ve been practicing over 5 years. It’s very normal. We would love to have you.
Emily
okay i dont get it. why would anyone want to do this if it makes them feel sick? Was ready to buy until i saw the comments.

@Emily…this local has signed up….Look forward to learning!

here’s my attempt to address the “limited locations” comment… i believe that this particular bikram yoga company only has two studio locations: severna park and annapolis. so, really, there is no location limitation to this particular groupon.
any form of exercise has the potential to cause adverse effects in some people. i haven’t been exercising very much at all lately but i practiced bikram yoga for a couple of years a while back… i do remember that the heat was a little much for me at first. i wasn’t in the best shape when i started. after a few classes my body acclimated to the conditions. i felt great after a session!
I’ve done vinyasa (90 degrees) not bikram. The heat relaxes you after a while.
It is not unusual to feel nauseous or dizzy during your first class. Practicing yoga in a heated room reveals to us our present condition, and inspires us take much better care of ourselves.
Usually the problem is that we do not drink enough water for daily living, let alone for exercising in a heated room. Nutritionists tell us that we need 64-80 ounces of water a day to help the body function properly.
In the heated yoga room, your body needs adequate fund of water to allow perspiration to release heat from the body as you practice. So we estimate you need another 64-80 ounces (sometime during the day) to allow for your 90 minutes in the room. Once you are drinking enough water your body will tolerate the heat better and you will actually enjoy the heat.
If you feel disoriented or like you need a good nap after your first few classes, this is likely because your body has begun to cleanse itself as a result of the yoga practice. Don’t be scared. After the first few classes this sensation will pass. The more you can relax as you give your 110% honest effort during class, the more energized you will feel throughout the class and throughout the rest of your day.
First, I find it amazing that the first poster is complaining about what is essentially a gift offered to him! Bikram Yoga Severna Park and Bikram Yoga Annapolis are the only locations for these owners. Would the first poster expect every grocery store to offer the same deals, regardless of whether they were Safeway, Giant, or Food Lion? Sheesh! Thank you very much, Emily, for this awesome groupon.
As they say, nothing that is worth having comes easily. Bikram is the same way. It can be very uncomfortable in the room, and the poses can be challenging, but the benefits far, far outweigh the discomfort. Doing Bikram completely transformed my body after I had a baby, and now my friends say I look better than before my pregnancy. My self-image is great, and I feel strong and fit. Better still, I have the energy and patience to chase after my toddler, all while working a full-time job and taking care of my home. Life is good. I attribute much of this to my commitment to going to Bikram, even on the days when I feel a bit woozy in the room. It is my gift to myself to make the time and effort to go there. Give it a try. It might be as magical for you as it has been for me.
Thank you, Jennifer A, for that last comment! That was just what I needed to hear, since I was sitting on the fence about whether or not to purchase this groupon. I’m looking forward to trying this out!!
This Groupon is a FANTASTIC deal! I am currently participating in Bikram Yoga in the Annapolis studio (primarily), so I purchased a Groupon for myself but also forwarded it to all my friends whom I thought might also be interested in giving Bikram Yoga a try. I have already brought two of my friends to the studio and hope to bring more because, while challenging, this yoga is the most healing discipline I have EVER undertaken. Thank you Emily for making this available to us! You and your husband ROCK!!!!!
This groupon literally made my summer! I was practicing yoga in the Charleston studio for a few months before moving up to Severna Park. Due to the econonmy, I have been unable to practice like I was previously and I am so thrilled to have this offer available. At least for one month I can have “my yoga time” back! It couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. Thank you so much for this offer!!!

Hey everyone in Annapolis and Severna Park!
I am so excited that you have this deal. I own Global Yoga San Francisco and did a Groupon in June at my school.. It is really fun to meet all of the nice people who have never done yoga or even just a little bit.
Emily Vendemmia owns this school here. She is a WONDERFUL yogi and a VERY nice person. You can also find her school on a page on Facebook. I visited her schools in March and everyone is awesome!! I really hope that you join. Emily trains with me in San Francisco and I know you will be inspired by her graceful practice, beauty and genuine concern for all of her students.
De Age and De Puff and De Stress now! You will have fun!
Karen, yeah! Thank you so much for telling all your friends about Bikram Yoga. It’s wonderful. See you in class soon!
Emiliy
Rachelle,
Fantastic! David Kiser taught for us before he open in Charleston!
I love David!!!
It’s like your already part of the family. See you in class soon.
Emily
I was so excited to see this Groupon! I just tried Bikram yoga a week ago and have already been 3 times this week. I love it and plan on going tomorrow as well. I was worried about the heat initially but I didn’t get sick at all and I was able to stay with it most of my first class. The instructors I have had are all very nice to newcomers. Considering that a drop-in class is $20, this is a fabulous deal! I forwarded this on to a few friends who have bought it as well. Thanks for doing this!
Alicia,
Welcome to the studio! So happy you are enjoying your classes. Thank you for your message for other to see.
Emily
Hello Everyone!
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a huge thread on a Groupon before!
To the first poster, as has already really been mentioned, Bikram studios are not all under the same ownership, so we couldn’t really all do one big Groupon together. My husband and I own Bikram Yoga Baltimore in Harbor East (which you mentioned) and Cockeysville. We did our Groupon back in March—sorry you missed it! We do still have other Introductory Offers you should check out.
To everyone near Annapolis and SP—go try Bikram! Emily and Phil are wonderful; Eddie and I are happy to have them nearby as fellow studio owners. Several students have already posted so eloquently regarding the benefits of a regular Bikram practice—now all you have to do is try it yourself!

Can I use the groupon between the two studios for the month or do I have to choose one or the other and only go there to use my groupon.
Also would that hold true if I decided I like this kind of yoga and wanted to continue… if i bought one of the packages would I only be able to use it at the studio I purchased it from.
thanks
Hi CheTarra
Yes, Your groupon (and packages offered) are for both Annapolis and Severna Park studios same owners same teachers, 42 classes a week ;D
Try a 30 Day Challenge to come in every day for 30 days – that’s only .83 cents a class!

Goupon, I know you are in the business of attracting companies, but I am curious why you let companies restrict the groupon use to certain locations which are all within the same Metropolitan area?
I am not saying in NYC should be the same cost as Baltimore, but the fact that you offered some Bill Bateman’s in the area but NOT Towson, some Bikram yogas but NOT Harbor East (this time) doesn’t make sense to me. I undersatnd the merchants set the terms and not you, but it seems like it would leave many more customers satisfied (not to mention cut down on a lot of questions) if you simply said “if a merchant wants to issue a groupon for city x, it will be valid at ALL locations near city x.”
Is that just too simple a concept?
Otherwise it appears that certain places, like the Towson Bill Bateman’s doesn’t care about their customers and doesn’t want them to enjoy good savings.
Just my two cents, though I would appreciate a reply.
