Seasoned teachers impart 26 beginner-friendly poses in a heated room that boosts heart rates and helps bodies expel toxins. BYV offers the "60 minute" Express Class, as well as the regular 90 minute class.

Athletes of all kinds tend to prefer high temperatures—yogis find that the heat keeps their muscles supple, and baseball players slide more efficiently down baselines coated in melted butter. Turn up the heat with this Groupon.

Teachers crank up the studio’s thermostat to 40.5 degrees Celsius for both 60- and 90-minute Bikram yoga classes. Standing and sitting poses build strength and balance as the heat deepens stretches and promotes flexibility. In all, 26 poses and two breathing exercises target the entire body and can help reduce stress and lead to weight loss. The 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. classes at Cambie are very popular. First come, first served, and it is recommended students arrive 30 minutes early to ensure a spot.

Bikram Yoga Vancouver

Lisa and Danny, the owners and directors of Bikram Yoga Vancouver, began their mutual journey under the tutelage of Bikram Choudhury, the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of India as well as the style of yoga that now bears his name. After a knee injury left him crippled at 17, Bikram willed himself toward recovery with the help of his teacher, Bishnu Ghosh, and the series of 26 asanas that the two designed specifically to heal the body’s chronic physical ailments.

Today, Lisa and Danny continue to teach those same 26 poses to students of all levels. Their classes unfold in a studio heated to a fiery 40.5 degrees Celsius; the high temperatures help the body shed tension, toxins, and piggybacking snowmen. Focused breathing exercises complement sitting and standing poses that propel oxygen to the body's extremities and strengthen muscles.
