Birdsfoot Golf Club

Named for the sunny yellow birdsfoot trefoil flowers strewn throughout the course—sprouted from seeds that fell off hay wagons rumbling through years ago on the fields of the former Buffalo Creek Farms—the championship golf course at Birdsfoot Golf Club enchants golfers with rolling hills and country charm. The links-style front nine give way to a back nine whose fairways open over hills, inviting golfers to pull out their drivers and whack dimpled orbs with the club-swinging gusto usually reserved for cracking eggs into an omelet pan. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette highlights the course’s 465-yard third hole as one of the 18 best public holes in western Pennsylvania, citing its mounded fairway, which doglegs left and challenges putts with a downhill, sloped green. As carts zoom from one hole to the next, they traverse a path where bogeyman faces carved by a local artist peer from tree trunks. When players finish their rounds, they can unwind in a clubhouse where ghosts from its former life as a farmhouse offer advice on covertly changing scorecard results.

The Groupon Guide to: Shoveling Snow

If you don't remove snow, it will build up until it covers your car, house, and even your four tall brothers who stay outside guarding the house. Here's how you can free your property from this white monster:

  • Start by picking out your shovel. The proper shovel size is as long as your arm span and large enough to incapacitate a raccoon.

  • Use the proper form when shoveling so that you don't hurt your back. Proper form is to squat all the way down on the ground, lay the shovel full of snow across your knees, and then stand up very suddenly, jerking the shovel above your head and holding it with both hands.

  • Remove the snow from your front walkway first. It might be snowing outside, but you still never know when an attractive salesperson or giant-check delivery man might stop by.

  • Continue by shoveling all of the snow from the front yard and putting it in the street. Look at all of the grass you freed.

I'll handle that raccoon.

Reviews

  • This is an excellent North American Links style track. The fairways and greens are in great condition this time of year.

  • Course layout is your typical rolling hills type setup with a good array of holes that will challenge just about any skill level.
