Each 45- to 60-minute class uses muay thai conditioning drills, heavy-bag work, and cardio training to tone the arms, legs, and core. Instructors teach basic punches, strikes, and kicks, using circuit-training workouts and partner work with thai pads. For a full schedule of available classes, click here. Boxing gloves and hand wraps are required, and classes are appropriate for ages 13 and older.

BJJ Shore Academy

At BJJ Shore Academy, Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former professional fighter Bill Scott joins with several other black-belt instructors to pass on the martial art to the next generation of fighters. Named Best of the Best for Martial Arts by the Asbury Park Press in 2011 and 2012, the academy offers self-defense classes for adults, teens, and kids, as well as anti-bullying programs for children. Every session is built upon the elements of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and caters to students and families of all skill levels. Fundamentals classes build basic leverage and mobility skills and lay the groundwork for more advanced, competition-ready classes in submission grappling and mixed martial arts. Amid the gym’s soft, pliant mats and three sides of wall mats, instructors offer wrestling classes for kids as well as yoga, boxing, and kickboxing instruction.
