$45 for a Private 30-Minute Horse-Drawn-Carriage Tour for Up to Six ($90 Value)

During waterfront tours, amicable drivers carry sightseers through Victoria's historic neighbourhoods—including the Parliament buildings along the Inner Harbour and Bastion Square to gaze at the province's premier courthouse.

Black Beauty Line

Seasoned charioteers at Black Beauty Line navigate winding routes past Victoria’s most picturesque locales. The average 30-minute tour circles the neo-baroque Parliament buildings that border the Inner Harbour and clip-clops toward historic James Bay Village. Riders can snuggle under provided quilts as buggies glide past sites such as the Heritage Homes, whose snowy veils on winter rides melt away for spring rides to reveal manicured gardens and groggy lawn ornaments. Along the way, charioteers impart tales and tidbits about the tour attractions, and good-naturedly pose for photos after the ride. The well-kept carriages are also available for private event rental, often for weddings. Owner Rebecca Spray brings 30 years of caring for horses to Black Beauty Line. As a member of Carriage Operators of North America, she ensures that horses are healthy, well groomed, and not actually a horse impersonator looking for real-world experience. Pets are welcome to come along for the ride, and everyone must make reservations before the tour.

The Groupon Guide to: Award-Winning Documentaries

Critics have described this year’s crop of award-winning documentary films as “exciting,” “revelatory,” and “boring in the middle.” Here are the plot summaries for this season’s best documentaries:

  • A man only washes himself with industrial car-wash fluid for an entire year to prove that industrial car-wash fluid is bad for you.

  • A group of preteen world handwriting champions prepare for the greatest challenge yet—signing their own permission slips.

  • A woman who accidentally locked herself in her closet for five years reassimilates to living in the rest of her house.

  • A man who starred in an embarrassing 1980s public-service announcement about the dangers of eating shellfish has his humiliating past dug up by a documentary film crew.

  • A group of people who were born without joints in their toes climbs Mount Kilimanjaro.

  • The terrifying secret about how ice cream is made

  • A bunch of people who did drugs together at an abandoned airplane hangar in the ‘70s get back together to talk about it.

  • One man sets out to expose the problem with the country’s public schools by enrolling his dog in the country’s public schools and seeing if they notice.
