Most people know better than to judge a book by its cover, but that hasn’t stopped publishers from plastering shirtless vampires all over underselling copies of the Farmers' Almanac. Stock up on eye-catching titles with this Groupon.

$10 for $20 Worth of New and Used Books

The store fills its shelves with used paperbacks ($2.50–$3 for small, $6–$6.50 for large) as well as brand-new books (manufacturer price) and hardcovers in excellent condition.

Blue Cypress Books

French children’s books. Rare, local cookbooks. Novels set in the muggy air of Louisiana. All of these tomes line the blonde wood shelves at Blue Cypress Books, home to a trove of more than 12,000 new and high-quality secondhand books. Gathered by the owner and chief bookkeeper, the store’s selection runs the gamut from New York Times bestselling paperbacks to antiquarian sets kept in slipcase in order to guard against spilling coffee or liquid nitrogen on their leather covers. The resident gray-and-white tabby cat, Kitty Meow, lounges amid browsers as they peek at the affordable prices penciled on the inside pages of an extensive youth collection.

Something always seems to be happening at Blue Cypress, too. Children's book readings captivate little ones, and author signings let guests hobnob with professional wordsmiths. The shop also hosts performances of local music as well as monthly book-club meetings, during which locals share favorite recipes for broiling mystery novels.

The Groupon Guide to: Being Too Big for Your Britches

No one likes people who are boastful—especially if they can’t back it up with substance. Consult this helpful guide to find out if you are too big for your britches:

  • Does your mouth write checks your butt can’t cash?
  • Is the volume of your bark disproportionate to the incapacitating power of your bite?
  • Do people condescendingly affix “mister” to the front of your name?
  • Are you all bluster and no muster?
  • Has anyone ever held you in place by affixing their palm against the top of your head while their abdomen stayed just out of reach of your windmilling fists?
  • Do you have to constantly pull up your trousers because they’re all that’s left of your father, a husky fighter pilot whose last words to you were “I have to go away for a while, champ”?

How can you tell if you’re too big for your britches? This guide can help you out.
